My 1024MB card is shown as a 1024MB card in System Profiler. I don't know if will actually be able to use more than the 512MB on the Apple card.
I am sill on Leopard because Sonnet still hasn't provided drivers for my eSATA card. And I'm not too happy that they don't plan to include a 64-bit driver.
Apple really should insist on that for any device that claims to be SL compatible.
Hello there just want to thank everybody here for the posts!! this discussion was crucial to my decision of whether or not to buy the ATI RADEON HD 4870 video card, because of this topic here I took the courage to buy the upgrade kit from apple for my (late 2007) MAC PRO and all I can say is that so far it has been working great!! Going to buy the adapter later to test the Mini Display port, don't know if I buy the adapter for VGA or DVI though
I just had the same experience. Bought a 4870 for my MacPro1,1. DVI port works fine, but the mini display port isn't working. Won't power up the Apple 24" LED.
I just installed the 4870 on my Mac and an application loaded on telling me to set up the ATI card. I thought I did it correctly but saw the second monitor's colors are whitewashed.
Does anyone know what that App is? I cannot seem to find it in utilities nor remember what it is called to search the drive or internet.
Not sure it's the same App, but when I put both video cards (old one and the ATI) in my machine an App called Expansion Slot Utility started up automatically. It's located in Mac HD/System/Library/CoreServices
Interesting App that showed the configuration of the expansion slots, also showed which cards were running at optimal performance and which weren't.
Thanx for comment.
For me it is the other way around.
The mindisplayport works for the Apple Cinema and not the DVI port.
Have tested with two 24" displays.
DVI port oddly enough also works with another non Apple display though on both ports...
Some incompatiblility or sensitivity going on here....
I am stumped
best

Hi Jan, Did you manage to get both ports working together? I had similar problem Duel DVI working but mini displayport seemingly not. I was advised by Martin Price to reset the SMC and possibly the PRAM. I reset the SMC and Bingo bothe ports working and both monitors working fine. below is the links for resetting SMC PRAM:-
I'll try that and report here...
The weirdness for me is that it works with two non-Apple displays
so my problem seems to be an incompatibility with Apple's own 23" Cinema.
HAve tried two dAple displays and both work on the Mini but not the normal DVI port.
