in as much as Apple does not warranty the use of this card with a MP1,1, do you know if they would allow its return if it did not work properly (one monitor or the other failed to work, whatever?). I -think- there would be no issue but clearly some folks are having some issues....
I'd consider upgrading but I have an Eizo monitor and a cheap Dell monitor and I do want the card to work with both of them of course.
I purchased my ATI RADEON HD 4870 card and 24" Cinema monitor direct from an Apple store, and I had no problems at all returning both items for full refund. Had to be within 14 days I think.
Apple says also that 10.5.7 is required. Do you know if 10.5.6 is sufficient?
I upgraded to 10.5.7 a few months ago and reeked havoc on my system and I had to go back to 10.5.6. I know there's a 10.5.8 available but after the 1st crisis I'm reluuctant to upgrade at all right now.
Sorry to here you've had no success. I'm wondering if as it appears to be faulty on the DVI that maybe you could get Apple to replace it! It does seem strange that it won't work with a 23" ACD. The only other thing that I can suggest is to connect the 23" ACD via a Alternative Apple DVI cable just in case the DVI cable you are using with your 23' is faulty.
The only issue I have had is being able to make the DVI port the Default (main Monitor), it seems that the Mini port is automatically set as the main one. but that's another story. I will keep an ear to the ground just in case someone has a solution to your problem other than what's been suggested. 🙂
That was my point I don't think you can set the DVI as Default. The only alternative is buying adapters to allow me to connect my 23" monitor to the Mini-displayport. I presume you have that adapter as you are using two 23" ACD's. However the required Apple adapter is really expensive and I have been reading threads on the forums which appear to suggest this adaptor isn't that good. How have you found it?
Has anyone tested the performance against the stock nvidia 7300? I had done a Xbench test last week on my system with the stock 7300. I ran Xbench again after installing a new HD 4870, Apple version. The results were slower than the 7300. I also can't get it to support Quartz Extreme.
Problem is with the 7300GT. Try without. I assume you moved the 7300 to top slot and that it is running at 4x or 8x while the 4870 is in the primary dual wide bottom.
I have a Mac Pro Rev 1,1 , an ATI Radeon 4870 HD, a Cinema Display 24 on the minidisplay port and a Cinema display 20 on DVI. Cinema display 20 works fine, but I get nothing on the Cinema display 24. I've installed Snow Leopard (10.6.3) and done SMC, PRAM and NVRAM reset without success. Any idea, please ?
Hatter - My real problem is I have lost Quartz Extreme support on both cards. Is there a way of resetting them? I have reinstalled the 10.5.8 update in Safe Mode. But that didn't help. When I first installed the ATI Radeon HD 4870 is showed up as supporting Quartz Extreme as did the 7300 GT. Somehow I disabled both cards when I mistakenly opened an old piece of software, PCI Extreme. I think this disabled Quartz Extreme. Any ideas on how to enable QE again?
