Canon Support for Snow Leopard

Canon has posted their support schedule for Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) for their consumer printers.

http://support-au.canon.com.au/contents/AU/EN/8200620400.html

It looks like if your product is a few years old then it is not advisable to purchase 10.6, or be ready to buy a new printer.

As for their business products, such as the imageRUNNER series, none of the current Canon printer drivers work on 10.6. Having been involved with the 10.6 seed testing I found that while the drivers appear to install okay, the creation of a network printer queue fails. This occurred with the following drivers.

CUPS PS v2.11
PS v1.81
UFR2 v1.80
Fax v2.20

So if you feel the need to update, then beware.

If your Canon device supports PostScript, then you can use either the Generic PostScript included with 10.6 or install the Canon PPDs so that you get some finishing options.

If your Canon device only supports a Canon proprietary protocol, such as UFR2, CAPT or GARO, then there is currently no solution for them with Mac OS X 10.6.

As 'bomobob' says above, I have the Canon Pro9000 Mk II, and the same colour management problem still exists in the 10.26 driver. Cannot seem to disable the colour management and use profiles in Aperture. Canon & Apple help pages show a different driver, which have the colour option of 'none' available, which is a shame as the current driver simply does not!

I logged this direct with Canon, no-one been in touch for nearly a week.. Although I have had e-mails saying this is being escalated to higher teams.

I have a Canon MF4370dn connected to a Mac-based home network via a Cisco Linksys router. Both of my Macs (a G5 running 10.5.8 and a MacPro running 10.6.2) have their print monitors display the message, "cannot monitor this printer with the current connection." Probably as a result of that, I experience frequent printing problems (no output is generated); the only short-term solution I have been able to come up with is deleting the printer and the printing queue and reinstall them. When I do so, the printer works for a few days and then the problem recurs. I have installed Canon's latest US drivers (dated 2/17/2010). Assistance with this matter would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Hi PAHU,

I have been following this thread for awhile now. First, speaking for everyone on here, thank you for the time you take to answer each of the posts on here.

Anyways, here is my problem:

I work in an office where we have an iRC3220 with an Imagepass C1 attached. Our machines are setup to require Dept ID to print. From all of the Windows computers, the PCL driver enables this Dept ID printing as it always has. A number of our employees have upgraded to SL and can no longer print to this machine.

How can I print to this machine again in SL? I'm not sure I understand the UFR driver setup and I'm dead in the water. Please help!

Hello mmoore86,

The imagePASS-C1 does not support the UFR2 printer language. Only the internal Canon printer board supports this language. With the external imagePASS you have to use the PS driver for this print controller and this will still allow you to use Dept ID for printing on SL.

The PS driver you require has to be the Universal Binary version which was released to support the Intel Mac's back in 2006. The previous C1 driver was Power PC and this will not work on your Intel Mac running SL. If your Mac users were previously using Leopard on Intel Mac's then they would already have this PS driver. If they don't have it, you can download the C1 UB driver via this link:

http://www.service.canon.com.au/drivers/files/irc/c1v21_mactel.zip

After installing this driver, you will then need to run a patch that changes permissions on the driver files. If you don't run the patch, you will get errors when you select to print. The patch can be downloaded from EFI via the following link:

http://services.efi.com/support/drivers/download2.asp?oem=efi&sys=Applemac_osx106&ver=NA

Hope this helps you.

I am so incredibly frustrated with my Imagepass C1 and Fiery Remote Scan.

I am able to initiate scans with FRS and get them one by one on my computer (Mac and PC) however I cannot see any of the files scanned to my mailboxes.

The reason I'm annoyed is that I was able to see and download all the files from the mailboxes about 45 minutes ago. Something happened or I changed something and I've been completely unable to view documents stored in any mailbox no matter what I've done.

Again, my problem is that I have a connection to the Imagepass C1/C3220 through FRS and can initiate scans but I cannot retrieve documents.

I cannot find any support on the topic. Please help!

Hi,

I've just bought a Pixma MP560 (Wifi printer) and install goes well, despite the fact that I don't understand why I need an ICA driver (scan driver ?) and Scangear as well... Everything is fine untill Snow Leopard ask for an update (update for Canon 2.3 or something). Then each time I open MP Navigator the firewall popups and ask if I want to authorize incoming connection. I click on yes but the message is coming again on next time. The same if I go to printer tools (a dontremember.app ask for a firewall authorization). It's very very annoying...
Other applications (iTunes or Word) never ask again for firewall permission once you have answered.

The PPDs don't support Mailbox printing - never have and never will.

To print to the Canon mailbox you have to use the "full" drivers, such as the UFR2 v2.10 or PS v3.10 on Mac OS X 10.6. To use either driver your imageRUNNER needs to be listed as a supported model, which is shown in the readme for the respective driver. What model of imageRUNNER do you have?

I have an iR5570 on one, as an example. I downloaded the UFR2 v2.1 driver from Canon. I Selected the corresponding driver (Canon iR Series UFR II (US)) from the PDF when connecting to the printer via LPD, and checked 'Job Accounting'.

Under 'Special Features' then, I can change Job Processing from 'Print' to 'Store', but there is still no location to define a mailbox # to print to.

Hi Pahu,

I am attempting to scan using MF4690, over network connection. I have tried both image capture, and directly from the printer and faxes control panel. In both cases I can see the preview, and when I say to scan, it scans, but when MF4690 finished scanning, the Mac's "Canon MF4600 Series" window still says Scanning..., and never completes. I have all the latest drivers, downloaded and installed fresh today.

I was not aware that any of the Canon MF series supported network scanning on Mac OS X. I know that it can be done with Windows, using Color Network ScanGear, but on the Mac I was of the understanding that the MF ScanGear application was only for USB. Could explain why it is not working correctly for you?

Hello Pahu.

I'm having similar troubles with printing to my Canon iR2620 printer since upgrading to Snow Leopard. I used to be able to print from select trays and such on the printer. I've used some of the tips you've shared about other ImageRunner printers. Now I can print, but I don't have access to any other features like changing paper tray settings, etc.

Any chance you know how I can get my printer back working again like it was before the upgrade to Snow Leopard?

Thanks in advance for your help!
