Canon MF4150 printing on 10.6

I installed 10.6 on my Imac this afternoon and all looked ok until I tried to print; the system did not recognize my canon mf4150 laser printer. OS X does not have a printer driver but the canon site site had a UFR II driver dated in 8-4-2009 that was good up through v10.5 (this was before v10.6 was released). I downloaded it and when I unpacked it and tried to set it up I keep getting error 9672 (looks like it was seen first in v10.3).

It seems that apple may have changed some file locations for v10.6, is it just a matter of moving some files?

There are known issues now (some are exactly how you described it) with the UFR 2.0 driver for the ImageClass MF series multifunction printers. I posted here (http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=10446238#10446238) about my findings from Canon Canada. Unfortunately it seems there's no workaround or fix except to wait till Canon releases a new driver. Canon was able to reproduce the same issues on their end. Sadly, UFR 2.0 driver (for 10.6) for the ImageClass series is utter junk.

Just to throw a curve-ball into the debate, my new MF4380dn is working fine with 10.6.1 using the UFR2 v2.00 driver.

The same Mac printing to my old MF4270 has some of the issues mentioned in this thread, ie cannot print duplex correctly, so it does look like the driver is somewhat incompatible with older models of MF.

Also, the same Mac is working fine with the v2.00 driver to the office imageRUNNER copiers.

Me thinks its time for Canon to pull out the finger and get this resolved asap.

Hi ATC7,

I'm so glad you were able to speak to a "higher-up" and Canon and that they were able to reproduce the problem at their end. Thank you so much for your persistence! I hope that they are able to figure out a solution sooner rather than later. I had wondered if I should try "clean installing" snow leopard to see if that would make a difference, but perhaps not?

So am I to understand that the new Canon MF4370dn printer I bought will not work under snow leopard right now? Any hints on how to get this working? I have it hooked up to my time capsule through a network port and not USB. I gave the printer an IP address and can see it, but it fails when I try to print. As with the rest of you, the duplex option is greyed out.

Any hints, tips, tricks to getting this working?? Ughhhh..

Update: I can get it to print via direct USB connection. Duplex works and all. I just cannot get this working through Network printing hooked up to the Time Capsule.

Any tricks on setting up the printer itself in the network settings? Or is it just snow leopard causing the error? I assigned the printer an IP address and did not let it select an auto IP.

Any advice? Thanks.

Hello James,

The printer will work fine when you print via Ethernet. Try the following steps.

Open Print & Fax and click + to add
Select IP > LPD
Enter the IP address of the MF4370 and then a queue name of LP
For the name, you can change it from the IP address to something more meaningful, like MF4370DN (this is just a text field so it doesn't matter what you enter).
In the Print Using menu, drop the menu and click 'Select Printer Software'.
When the search window appears, type MF43. This should make 'Canon MF4360-4390 (UFRII LT)' appear in the list. Select this and click OK. Now click Add to complete the network print queue creation.

Hopefully this works for you. Pls reply if you still need help...

I had to uninstall, reinstall the driver for it to work. Is there something special about setting up this printer's network settings (IP, etc..)

At any rate, I was able to print via ethernet, but now the duplex part of the printing does not work. Under the Finishing section, the Print Style: 2 sided does not work under ethernet printing. Is this a known issue? How can we get duplexing going?

Or are all the Canon 4370dn owners up the creek without duplexing capabilities under snow leopard!?!? Any advice?

thanks.

HEY! I contacted Canon yesterday complaining about the current SL driver for the MF4150 and received no response. However, when I went out there today they had released the v2.05 driver!

I still have not upgraded to Snow Leopard due to this issue. Can someone upgrade their driver and see if it fixed the problem of not being able to print multiple pages and/or duplex printing?
