Aperture 2.1.4 Crashing after Snow Leopard Upgrade

Hi All

Upgraded to Snow Leopard today and then shortly after a successful upgrade, also upgraded Aperture to 2.1.4 via software update.

It now crashes almost immediately after launch giving the output below. It would seem that the "library not loaded" part would be the cause.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Will

MacTechSteve to the rescue! Following on MacTechSteve's "ariel issue" I had a second look in FontBook. Ariel was not shown as being a duplicate (had already resolved those). Looking inside the Ariel font entry in the font book, there were duplicates of each ariel type. I used fontbook to show the source file in the finder. The versio in the /library/fonts/ folder was updated with SL. The version in /user/library/fonts/ was from 1994! Likewise also found a courier from 1997.

I deleted the ariel font file from the finder (move to trash) and it's corresponding type package instantly disappeared from FontBook (which I had open in the background).

Without restarting, I tried Aperture/Nik CEP3 and voila - instant open. Sure is significantly faster with SL.

Thanks MacTechSteve. I'll be updating my Nik support ticket too.

(UPDATE: An alternative fix: Your Snow Leopard install may of installed the updated Arial font with out removing the old outdated Arial font. When you use Font Book check within the Arial listing to see if some styles (regular, bold, italic, etc.) are duplicate. Select one of the dups and press "command i" for info. You want to keep the current fonts and styles (version 5.00) and remove the old.)

I am having problems exporting versions of just certain files within one project (albeit a huge one!) There is no problem exporting the master, but any version export causing aperture to crash with a database kern error message. I have tried clean reinstalling Aperture - running off an old Aperture database (that never exhibited this problem before) Rebuilding the library, all the solutions mentioned on this thread, but to no avail. At the moment it is beginning to look at though I will have to export the 12k originals as their original CR2 files and reimport them (but then I will lose all my retouching!!!! So it is not an ideal scenario..)
Do any of you smart folks have any bright ideas?
Many thanks

I Had this problem after installing the SL upgrade to my Macbook Pro

Aperture immediately crashes on launch.

Reinstalling Aperture _does not work_

The fix for me was restoring a copy of copy "/Library/Frameworks/Plugin.manager---" from a time machine backup done before SL install to /Library/Frameworks

Now Aperture works fine again

man thats a serious but in the SN upgrade installer

I am having this problem (plugin manager library not loaded) but with a fresh install of Aperture 3.0 on a new iMac i5.

As per the suggestions in this thread, I manually installed Plugin Manager v.1.7.3 [(here)|http://support.apple.com/kb/DL98] but I am still getting the error message (albeit slightly different now!...

Library not loaded: /Library/Frameworks/PluginManager.framework/Versions/B/PluginManager
Referenced from: /Applications/Aperture.app/Contents/MacOS/Aperture
Reason: no suitable image found. Did find:
/Library/Frameworks/PluginManager.framework/Versions/B/PluginManager: no matching architecture in universal wrapper
