Photoshop CS4 crashes after Snow Leopard Upgrade

Most people I know have mac's and are heavy photoshop users, you think Apple would make sure that one of the biggest and most popular programs for a mac would work properly! Saving, opening and editing all crash it, its very unstable now. Hello, I make my living as a graphic designer and NEED my photoshop to work! this is completely ridiculous for it not to work on both of my machines.

Apple needs to get back into the mindset of having stable systems and OS not all the fun and fluff!!!

Anyone else having issues with photoshop?

I've been a loyal Mac user for years... and after joining the international ranks of Mac users who are now LOOSING time and work and business and money because of countless CS4 and MS Office crashes post Snow Leopard install... it feels like I've got back in time to using a Windows OS.

Egad, Apple... what were you thinking? What was I thinking, trusting that Apple had fully tested SL w/ Adobe and MS Office?

I do not understand being an early adopter and then complaining when there are problems. Don't any of you have back-ups? I understand being annoyed or even a little upset because we all want this to work but saying your going back to Windows is just plain weird. I have Tiger backed up in 3 places in case this SL had problems.

I'm running well with SL with a couple of quirks in Dreamweaver but no big deal. I have the whole CS4 suite of apps.

Might be completely unrelated, but then again, you never know.

Photoshop CS4 was crashing like crazy on my system until I went into preferences and under performance unchecked "Enable OpenGL Drawing". Apparently it was checked by default, the program had checked my video card and all was fine, but when I did further digging I found the video card needs double the memory I had and double the memory it was reporting to work properly.

Once I unchecked it, all fine. Could be completely unrelated, but you never know.

I have been suffering from exactly this problem also. Nothing worse than a program crashing when you actually go to SAVE the document! No thanks to all the people saying "there's nothing wrong with my machine"!

I can confirm that I have not had a crash since indiscriminately removing all my Adobe prefs. i.e.: ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe* and ~/Library/Preferences/com.adobe.*

I'm sure you can selectively only remove Photoshop related prefs, I just needed to get things back to normal ASAP.

Software that crashes for me since Snow Leopard update:

Photoshop CS4 (When opening a .psd file or saving out any file)
Illustrator CS4 (When saving out an .ai file)
Flash CS4 (When saving out a .fla file)

"Preview" even crashed when I tried to convert a .psd file to a .jpg (this one is truly unbelievable, especially since "Preview" is Apple's own software.

I've had a few other programs crash too, but not worth mentioning. The crashing has occurred on my new Octacore Mac Pro at home and also on my old Dual-Core Mac Pro at work, (Both Intel Xeon).

I tried to go back to Leopard on my computer at work using "Archive and Install" per a recommendation from an Apple Store employee, and it completely wiped my Macintosh HD back to the Leopard factory settings. So, I do not recommend this.

Thank goodness for Time Machine. Hopefully Apple is aware of the issue and a fix is on it's way.
