HP PhotoSmart C4480 In Snow Leopard

My HP all in one PhotoSmart C4480 prints perfectly fine in Snow Leopard but when I try to scan from the printer it says "Scan Error. Try from computer or see documentation". Then when I try to scan from the computer the app fails to open. I've reinstalled the drivers from the HP website and from the included CD in the printer box but it still does the same thing. My scanner worked perfectly fine in Leopard but not in Snow Leopard. I can usually fix this stuff but I think the drivers are not compatible with Snow Leopard. Also when I try to scan from the system preferences menu it ends up saying no scanner selected. Please tell me if you are having the same problem with your HP all in one and if you found a solution. Thanks.

Bryan,

Please see my post (the last one on the first page of this thread) about what is and isn't supported. As for getting the software installed, the drivers that came with Snow Leopard should be able to Print and Scan from your device. A full solution will be available shortly.

In the meantime, if you are having trouble getting the Snow Leopard software running, let me know and I'll see what I can do.

Just trying to help.

Andrew,

I saw your post and when I uninstall the HP drivers (ones in the box) my printer says "Some of the software for this printer is missing." and then doesn't scan or print. With the HP drivers installed at least it prints. The Image Capture app isn't working with the printer either. Every thing else on the operating system is amazing and I would recommend everyone to upgrade but thats about the only issue I'm having.

I will re-iterate Barry's instructions, but in a slightly different order.

1) If your printer is connected via USB, disconnect it.
2) Go to the Print & Fax system preference, right click on your printer and select "Reset printing system..."
3) Run the HP Uninstaller on your machine located at /Applications/Hewlett-Packard/HP Uninstaller. When you get to the uninstall screen, press and hold Shift-Control-Option-Command while you click the Uninstall button. Say yes to the scary message.
4) Restart your computer, or better yet turn it off and wait a minute.
5) Turn you computer back on.
6) Now you have several ways to accomplish the next step. Option 1, simply plug the device into the USB port on your computer. Option 2, install the 10.6 drivers of the Snow Leopard DVD. Option 3, download the Snow Leopard package from [here|http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/firmware_hardware/hpprinterdr iversformacosxv106.html] and run it.
7) Add your printer back. Scanning can be done directly from the Printer browser (or any of the other mechanisms I mentioned). It can NOT be done from the front panel of the device. Do not install any other HP software.

At this point you should have a functional device with Scan and Print. The HP Utility should also work just fine.

Note that a full installer for your device should be available within the next week to 10 days (but no guarantees).

Just trying to help.

The software is up to date because I reinstalled the HP drivers from their website. I just think I'm gonna have to wait until HP catches up and makes a SL compatible scanner driver.

There is your mistake! HP specifically says DO NOT use the software drivers on their site. The most up to date software, and compatible drivers, are included on the Snow Leopard DVD. Install from the SL DVD and then follow HP's instructions on HP's site for 10.6.

IT NOW WORKS :)!!!!!

I'M SO HAPPY!!!

NOW SNOW LEOPARD IS FLAWLESS!! (well at least I run into another problem cause its only my first week using it. Got it Aug 29... a day after release!)

Guess what Genius, those are the SAME drivers included with Snow Leopard! Take a look at the release date on that page, 1 day before the release of Snow Leopard. You didn't bother to listen to anyone's advice because you continued to use HP's drivers from their website, or the ones you had installed from Leopard. Many told you to install the HP software from the Snow Leopard DVD, but you didn't listen and continued to blame Apple for the problem. Next time, please listen to the advice given and you would have solved your problem much sooner.
