I upgraded my iPhone 3G to the 3.1 firmware on Wednesday. Since then, my phone can't see any wifi networks. I've tried to do a restore twice, as well as rebooting the phone a couple times, and it hasn't helped. Has anyone else experienced this and found a fix? It's looking like a trip to the Genius bar 😟
Ok, I just signed up for this forum to tell everyone my experiences and ask a quick question. After upgrading to 3.1.2, my wifi died just like everyone else's. After trying EVERYTHING in this forum and several others, i finally called apple and told them my problem. That was friday. Monday I received a box to send it back to them with, and today, Wednesday, I have my replacement phone . Awesome service, even if it was shipped by fedex. BUT, the phone does not have 3.1.2. I updated my carrier settings ONLY to get my mms capability on 3.1, but I am now a little gun-shy about upgrading. The wifi works, so i"m thinking about leaving it alone until later. What would you guys do?
can anyone report about changing the device after expiration of garanty in germany because of this problem? at gravis they don't know anything about this... do I have to go to t-mobile?
Yes my Iphone (1st gen) worked fine on 3.0 but when I upgraded to the newest 3.1.2 and the service update 5.6 my wifi was completely cut. And it just scans and cannot find any networks at all in the world not just at my house.
Guys / gals - I have since got in touch with Apple Support and they have been very helpful both in the UK and US which is nice to see. They asked me all the usual questions regards what I had done to try to get it working. There is advise on the Apple support site which I tried out first e.g. Resetting Network in Settings->General or after backing up the phone trying Erase All Content and Settings (factory default). If you still have experienced no Wifi connectivity and/or the WiFi option has greyed out on the iPhone which was the end result on my iphone (component failure), then just contact AppleCare and use the warranty. My one was just outside warranty but worth speaking with them to resolve the situation and its nice to talk to them directly. Get a Case ID set-up too for tracking purposes.
Same here. Worked perfectly before last upgrade. Tried the restore, but nada. No Wifi. I strength meter/circle, starts and stops periodically but that's it.
So far I'm on the *4th replacement* iPhone. Thought I'd let you know the the information I've gathered over the last few weeks regarding this problem.
Firstly I replaced my iPhone with that £139 service the apple stores provide as my old phone was out of warranty and had lots of issues (none of them being lack of wi-fi functionality though!)So got a new one, with 3.1 installed on it. This developed a mouthpiece fault, as in it didn't work so no one could here me speak. Anyway took that back to store, and after some tests they replaced it.
Didn't cross my mind at the time to check wi-fi functionality etc., so just left store with replacement. Got home, restored backup and all working fine. Next morning realised I couldn't access the wi-fi at home, but strangely all my computers could. Rebooted iPhone, still no wi-fi, reset network settings, still no wifi, factory reset it, still no wifi! Took back to store and they did some tests, then replaced it again. This time I tested wi-fi in store, all OK (this came with 3.1 as well). Went home, wi-fi worked OK, (no restore or firmware update done at this time as a test as such) then wi-fi started to become flakey, dropped out when I was practically sat next to the router, then totally lost the wi-fi signal again. Did usual stuff as detailed above to try and get it working again to no avail. So went back again to store and they did tests again, and replaced it again. Guess what? Wifi worked for about 10 mins (In store), went home, worked again for about 10 mins, then it dropped out and hasn't seen any wireless networks since.
By now I am obviously getting annoyed to say the least. Instead of revisiting the apple store this time I call apple support and detailed all of this to them. They said 'they've never heard of this problem, and you are really unlucky to get 2 iPhones in a row with the same problem.' Suggested usual fixes (Resets etc.) which I already had done by this point. They then could only suggest going back to apple store to see a 'genius' to get it replaced. (Genius? Don't make me laugh)
Anyway, went back to Apple store again (onto the 4th Visit now) to kick off with them because this is getting beyond a joke. Got there, the 'genius' actually admitted to me that there are issued with some of the iPhones. Apparently its a certain h/w revision that has this specific problem. Older ones are OK, but newer manufactured phones have had a slight h/w change (wi-fi chip revision) and this is root of the problem. The wi-fi/bluetooth tweak in 3.1.2 etc is causing the wi-fi chip to malfunction. (tell me something that I already didn't know! Lol) Anyway, all they could do is replace it again and see if I got one that works. So replaced it again, and wi-fi worked like a dream for the 25 mins I was in store. So by now I thought, finally I've got a working one. So got home, didn't restore or nothing just left it as it was and wi-fi worked for about 25 mins. Then after that, wi-fi stopped working again, and now its never seen another wi-fi network since. I was passing an Apple store yesterday so I popped in there and checked to see if it could see their wi-fi, and it COULDN'T. So I'm am now onto my next visit back to apple store tonight and this time I'm not going to be nice.
To just to recap, I'm now onto the 4th iPhone, and still having the same problems. I have totally lost my faith in Apple. They obviously know that there's a problem, but it seems like they are not able to fix it, well at least for the time being. Especially as some of you have had it replaced when its out of warranty. Which to me is an admission from Apple saying that the firmware update killed my wi-fi.
I don't have words...your story is a shame for Apple.
I don't know what to do. Surely, I will not update my OS. But I hope that next OS version (3.2 etc..) will fix this ****** 3.1 os.
I can't believe that next OS version will break all Iphone wifi!
In your opinion, there is some information (version, serial number etc..) that I may check to be sure that OS update will not burn my wifi ?
Thanks and good luck !
