No Wifi after iPhone 3.1 upgrade

I upgraded my iPhone 3G to the 3.1 firmware on Wednesday. Since then, my phone can't see any wifi networks. I've tried to do a restore twice, as well as rebooting the phone a couple times, and it hasn't helped. Has anyone else experienced this and found a fix? It's looking like a trip to the Genius bar 😟

No doubt. I certainly wouldn't object to the two companies getting together, but I'm guessing it won't happen. Apple has a history of not admitting problems until there are countless reports and a lot of bad press. This issue hasn't seem to have garnered much press.

I still look at Apple as the culprit for the primary reason that so many people reported their wi-fi was working fine until they updated their firmware.

Yes, THANK YOU TO APPLE and BIG THANKS to singapore apple care CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP named "who i forgot, guy about Shawn or somekind sounds like that, after the officer named ASH pick up my call"

who keep insisting that :
"my iphone LSI is triggered already and the wifi problem is maybe because of contacted with any liquid blablablablabla"

to Customer Relations or AppleCare staffs, PLEASE do LOOK AT THIS forum.
and see how many of us suffering because of this new firmare issue,
and still insisting keep insisting that this is my mistaken because LSI triggered already,
please see how high is singapore humidity level that can cause by any chance trigger the LSI on the bottom part of your GREAT BUILD iPhone!?!!?!?!

please do look carefully and read it word by word inside this forum,
I call yesterday 12 noon, from Singapore named McFarlane, and the case number is 141587388

isn't there anything u can do regarding this case?

really can sweep away your customer if like this, and if the case is still going nowhere, I will gladly tell to all my friends and colleagues to stop buying apple product, just to proof that the customer satisfactions is this irrelevant and so one sided.

again,
THANK YOU APPLECARE!

I am on the line right now and the guy named SHANAN was the Customer Relations officer who decline my exception request yesterday.

like I said, I think this conversation is going to nowhere, I just want them to look carefully to this issue, not just keep insisting the issue is because my LSI triggered.

and like this just makes me disappointed on Apple,
right after I am about to feel excitement in using Apple product.

good luck on u guys.
hope the rest of u can get better serviced than me.

Nov 10, 2009 8:27 PM in response to McFarlane

so, that's all,

the Shanan doesn't even want to talk to me again, only keep insisting bout the LSI triggered
LSI triggered LSI triggered, blah blah blah...

editted:
like I said, THIS WIFI PROBLEM DOESNT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH MY LSI TRIGGERED OR NOT!
somemore, my LSI triggered FEW MONTHS RIGHT before my warranty over, I knew it because I requested to change the new one regarding the home button, but Singtel refuse to exchange 1-1 because of this LSI tirggered, then I thought it's small problem only, so I kept using this until over warranty already and suddenly this WIFI ISSUE came out right after upgrading new firmware which is 3 DAYS AGO.

do u still think like that after u see this survey?

http://web.me.com/lucretius/home/prerogative/Entries/2009/7/8Singtel_Iphone_Warrantyloophole..html

alright, That's it for me, there is no more reason I would buy any apple product, nor my friends , nor my colleagues, nor my families,

thank you apple and you have make a good "friend" of mine already.

Thank You Shanan.
(only if u can read this forum then u know how grateful I am to you and apple then)

Same story here. Since upgrading my wife's iphone won't see any networks, but mine still does. Took her phone to the local Genius Bar where they restored the hardware settings with no luck. The Genius concluded it is a hardware issue, which they can fix for $250 (the phone just went off warranty). Now I just spoke to my sister who bought an iPhone last December and is having the same issue. Planned obsolescence.....I wonder?

I'm now having this problem. I had to get my phone replaced by apple a week ago for unrelated hardware issues, and the new phone that I received has been unable to connect to wifi. It will connect after I enter my password, and then disconnects 2 seconds later. Seeing that it has disconnected 2 seconds later, I try to hit the network name again to connect. Then it tells me: "Unable to join the network." I had none of these problems with my previous phone (which I had for 1 year before getting it replaced), so I'm baffled as to what is causing these problems now.

I have the same problem as others have mentioned before. WIFI has worked fine on my iPhone 3G until last night when it wouldn't find any WIFI network. I have tried the different fixes mentioned on here but nothing has worked. Interestingly, I can't get Edge or 3G in the WIFI area, only GPRS but when I leave that area I can pick up 3G. Still can't get WIFI anywhere though. When I reset the network settings I get 3G for a few seconds and then it drops off.

I have a feeling it's a hardware problem and could need a new iPhone. Those who said they have been given a new iPhone - did you get to keep any of your data, such as contacts, calendar and songs or was it just a complete fresh start?

I have the same issue with the 3G and do believe that the 3.1.2 is the culprit. *I have another 3G phone that _has not been updated_ and the wifi works great*... no issues. The 3Gs that I also own has no wifi issues at all.

Apple support has sent me 2 new phones and they to do not find and connect to wifi at home or internet hotspots. They were nice enough to charge me $29.00 for shipping of something that is obviously their doing. Does anyone know if a fix is on the horizon?

See Thread WiFi problems for others. Phoned Apple help line and they offered to UPS a new phone. However, as I was in London the following day I called in to the Apple store Genius Bar where I was told that it is a problem with the 3.1.2 software which affects the chip providing WiFi and bluetooth. The Regents Street store have seen a stream of people with this problem and are logging all reports with Apple. The problem has been notified to Apple and their software team are working on the problem and will release an update/patch soon. I was offered a new phone but but advised that I would not be able to update all the Apps/data etc. without installing 3.1.2. It seems best to wait for the update, the guy in the store was in the same position; but all in all not very satisfactory, not very Genius and why has someone from Apple not posted information on this and other related threads.

I have a DLink DIR-655 which did not work with iPhone until the Firmware was updated by DLink. Because of the symptoms I exchanged emails with DLink support who responded that an update to the Firmware was soon to be published. The DLink firmware update resolved the issue.

I have a DIR-600 that the iPhone 3G worked fine before the 3.1 update. After the 3.1 update, the phone frequently loses connection and asks again for the WPA password. All other devices work fine on this network, and the iPhone 3G worked fine before 3.1. My wife upgraded to 3.1 two weeks after I did, and her phone began experiencing the same symptoms then.

It really sounds like an iPhone problem, but if D-Link is working on a workaround, I can live with that. Did they give you any indication when the new firmware would be generally available? Is there a way to get your hands on prerelease firmware?
