No Wifi after iPhone 3.1 upgrade

I upgraded my iPhone 3G to the 3.1 firmware on Wednesday. Since then, my phone can't see any wifi networks. I've tried to do a restore twice, as well as rebooting the phone a couple times, and it hasn't helped. Has anyone else experienced this and found a fix? It's looking like a trip to the Genius bar 😟

I just received my replacement iPhone 3G as the previous one had its WiFi decide to stop working only hours after the 3.1 firmware update.

==============================================
The history:

It happened at a friends place. I connected to his WPA WiFi network, attempted to use "Remote" to vote for a song on his iTunes DJ, then the phone dropped the wireless connection and that was the end of my Wifi.

In my case it was the WiFi option in "Settings" being greyed out and unavailable. In the "About" section, it would sometimes list a WiFi mac address and sometimes not.
==============================================

Ok, and back to today's adventure:

As the replacement still had the 3.0 firmware on it, I had to update it to 3.1.2 so as I could restore my backup.

After the update, the Wifi is still working (kind-of)...

I can start Safari and the iPhone will ask me which network I want to use. It will quite happily connect, but after that it will continue using the 3G data and no WiFi icon appears in the top left corner.

I have to switch Airplace Mode on, connect to my Wifi and then turn Airplane back off.

At least I actually HAVE some kind of WiFi now...

UPDATE

Spent the last two days going though all the hoops that I have already done with Apple Care. I now have a case number and the tech I spoke with said that he ran my case by his supervisor and that his floor supervisor "said there is an issue with WiFi chips" and was recommending a replacement phone. I have an appointment tomorrow at the Apple Store, so we'll see what happens.

3.1.2 upgrade did not improve matters.
So I went to the Shop who lent me a new phone with still has the 3.0 firmware and I am hesitant to upgrade!
Since not all models have this problem it would be helpful if people posted the phone details, so we could see if there is a link.

old phone:
Modem firmware: 05.11.07
Model: MB496FD

replacement phone:
Modem firmware: 04.26.08
Model: MB500FD

Is there any other important info that should be mentioned?

Following upgrade to 3.1.2(7D11) yesterday, I too have no WiFi access. Have tried all above with no joy.

After selecting WiFi 'on' and moving to safari, nothing happens for about 1 minute, then it asks for the WiFi password as the one it has is incorrect. So I input the correct one again and nothing happens. I have left it in that state for 5 minutes to see if it needs time, but no change.

Any help greatfully received.

Model : MB048LL
Modem firmware : 05.11.07

I too am having WIFI connection problems after updating to 3.1.2 this past week.

I can get a connection (sometimes) by switching airplane mode on and off. Then other times, the connection is broken sometimes in the middle of a session.

I'm connecting at home using AT&T U-Verse, which raises my blood pressure. Apple and AT&T need to get it together if they are going to partner.

Same here. WiFi broke after 3.1. Started working only intermittently, now after 3.1.2, wifi is totally greyed out "No wifi". I am very unhappy.

Version: 3.1.2 (7D11)
Model: MB704LL
Firmware: 05.11.07

You should also see the posting, "wifi issues" for the same issue. Lots of people are just returning their phones.

For completeness I disabled security, switched from G-only to mixed b/g mode, and manually tried every channel instead of using auto. Nothing helps. At least I know it's not a channel or security issue.

The iPhone is the only device that has trouble connecting with this D-Link router.

*Note to the good Apple folks who maintain this discussion forum:* The OS selector when posting a reply stops at iPhone version 3.0.1. Isn't it time to add 3.1 and 3.1.2 to the list? Just askin'.
