What worked for me is to reset the NVRAM.
Did you try both HDMI channels? Cause there's usually 2 HDMI ports plug it in and then try the other input if it says no signal.
I did try both. Any other suggestions?
Here is a video I posted to YouTube of what the 1080i output looks like on both machines.

Sorry I meant 1080p.
I bought a cheapy on ebay and I went to system prefernce, hardware, display, mirror display. Solved the problem Hope this helps
THE WAY TO DO IT IS JUST PULLING YOUR WEB BROWSER OFF THE SCREEN TO THE RIGHT UNTIL YOU START SEEING IT ON THE TV!! HOPE THIS WORKS FOR ALL 🙂
Also, using gfxcardstatus and switching to integrated only (Intel HD Graphics 3000) the MBP does the blue screen ONLY when I unplug the cable/switch to another HDMI source but NOT when I plug it in.
I have a Mid 2009 MacBook Pro 13" and I have fully updated it. Today i bought a Mini Displayport to Hdmi and i have the video to my tv but not my sound... can anybody help me and tell me what to do?

I have fixed the problem by returning the Mini display port to the shop and got a new one. They also suprised since they did not have the same problem before. Now, everything works like a charm!
I bought a new Techlynx Mini DP to HDMI adapter. Using it with a good quality hdmi cable i use for my playstation and the problem is completely solved.
For display go to SYSTEM PREFERENCES, DISPLAYS, ARRANGEMENT, and CHECK BOX MIRROR DISPLAYS.
For sound go to SYSTEM PREFERENCES, SOUND, OUTPUT, and CLICK ON YOUR TV'S NAME
