Canon G11 RAW format not supported?

The G11 is not on the list of supported RAW file formats:

I'm confused (and having the same problem). I use a Canon D40 which IS listed as a supported RAW format, but I get the the same "unsupported format" error message.

So what is the story? Does or doesn't Aperture support Cannon 40D RAW format photos?

The RAW file format for the Cannon EOS 40D should be supported, but not the smaller sRAW format.

What a shame. I am using the trial addition of Aperture, and I like what I see, but all my photos are all sRAW. Are there any work arounds or must I return to Photoshop for editing and correction purposes?

Right now Aperture doesn't support sRAW, so you have to use another tool.

I can't figure why people would throw away all their pixels and use sRAW as a format.

Yup, same here. I just bought a Canon G11, I'm shooting in RAW, which produces .CR2's. That should take advantage the camera's maximum quality if I'm not mistaken, which is what I want.

iPhoto doesn't like em'.

Think Apple will eventually begin to support the G11's .CR2's? I definitely don't want to lower my shooting quality, but I also don't want the hassle to run Photoshop for each & every photo.

This was the same issue last year when the Canon G10 came out. No RAW support but apple will support it sooner or later. The G11 just came out.

For those using the Canon G11's RAW format (.cr2)

Super easy workaround (for now)... Just use Adobe's DNG Converter.

This will allow G11 owners to shoot in RAW for the time being until Apple releases an update to fix this issue.

The list of compatible cameras doesn't include the G11, but I tried it and it works wonderfully!

If you want to talk to Apple, use the Feedback route:

Aperture menu -> Provide Aperture Feedback

TD, thanks for your advice .... I have just contacted the Aperture team, with my request for RAW format support for the Canon PowerShot G11, via the Aperture menu > Provide Aperture Feedback.

WHY would you shoot RAW with a G11? What's the point? Sorry..... I just don't see it. You're talking about a camera that in its OFFICIAL press release Canon does not even make reference to the lens build or specifications.

This is not a knock on the camera... it's a terrific little point n' shoot... but I challenge you to PROVE the advantage of shooting RAW over a high quality JPEG from this camera.

I'm not talking about "saving" improper exposures. I'm talking about IQ with a properly exposed image. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.

Put it in best JPEG mode and go enjoy the camera. You're kidding yourself shooting RAW.
