iTunes Error 42408 After 9.03 Upgrade

I am receiving the error 42408 after upgrading to 9.03. Google did not yield any results. The error appears attempting to authorize my Powerbook.

PowerBook G4, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

Didn't work for me. It appeared to in that I disconnected the iPod, played a controlled song, which asked me to authorise, authoriesed, reconnected the iPod. No problem. Quit iTunes, restarted. Prompted to authorise again. Anyone know where I get a copy of iTunes 9.0.2? It's only since 9.0.3 I have the problem. I'm underwhelmed by Apple's helpdesk staff too.

I have the same problem! I deleted the SD folder yesterday and it worked after that, but this morning my iTunes prompted me again with a 42408 error when I tried to play my (ALREADY PURCHASED!!!) content. Seeing that, I deleted again the SD folder but it does not work anymore. I feel like screaming. I have over $3000 in shows and now I can't play ONE. I have sent 2 emails to apple and hope to see a response ASAP.
PS My son's laptop works however! He still runs iTunes 8 on it (not very good at upgrading, lucky guy huh) 😟

here is where I found 9.0.1 (and they have 9.0.2 as well): http://www.blogsdna.com/4920/download-itunes-9-0-1-for-windows-mac.htm -
The only way it worked for me was to completely re-install an earlier version of iTunes 😟 I hope they fix this otherwise I am not likely to upgrade my iTunes any day soon - and start to think twice about buying their media if it turns out that a glitch like this could prevent me from playing all my iTunes files (I have over 1.5 terabytes of iTunes files!)

Okay guys - I finally found a fix for mine and it has continued working after multiple reboots and syncs. Instead of trying to sync my iPod where I was getting the error, I went to sync my iPhone it works with 9.0.3 (the iPhone has been syncing fine all along). Now when I plug in iPod, it continues to sync fine.

If others have mutliple devices that sync on the same PC or multiple authorizations on the same PC, you might try syncing the other devices first. Hope this gets the rest of you going - good luck and please report back

The "Removing the SC folder" fix didn't work for me when I did it as described on the support page. I tried it again, launched iTunes but this time WITHOUT restarting the computer after removing the SC folder, and voila! Fixed.

If anybody was unable to get it fixed using the SC folder method, try doing it WITHOUT restarting the computer after you remove the SC folder. Might just work.

Thanks Mav88. I completely agree with you. I'm sticking with this version and I'm definitely not buying from iTunes again. The lack of responsibility that the various help teams have displayed over this issue is appalling. They seem to think it's OK to take your money for purchases, then make changes to the software to render them completely useless. I've been a dedicated Apple customer for twenty years, but the brand has hatched one big worm for me over this one.

Forgive me, all, for possibly repeating what someone else has said on another page but, frankly, I can't be bothered to read all 10 pages.

I think the real question, from me, is why this has suddenly started happening?

For me it's started in the last two weeks. Now almost without rhyme and reason it seems to occur. Almost every other time I connect to sync I get a message saying my computer is not authorised, which it is. I try to authorise and of course every time without fail get the 42408 error.

I tried the SC Info folder workaround and once that worked and another time I was forced to restore my iPod which I could have done without as that usually requires 5 restores before it sorts itself out.

I remember a couple of years when, after another upgrade, a similar problem occurred when you couldn't sync any purchased songs. This went on for too long without so much as a workaround.

I am beginning to feel the same way about Apple as some feel about Microsoft. Their product(s) cause me so much hassle it's almost not worth it. When they work, great, but when they don't it's just painful to have to resolve the issue. With the faulty hardware and buggy software upgrades what are great little gadgets, conceptually, are in practice monumentally irritating.
