No bcates it doesn't effect your purchases, but it won't work either. This is a bug with 9.0.3, as I've had the same problem since the upgrade.
It seems that this only happens once the computer has re started and Itunes launches when the iPod is plugged in. There seems to be a lot of solutions on this discussion but I wonder if anyone has actually got their ipods to work after a reboot, if so which solution works permanently?
I've wasted part of a day going through every possible fix, including deleting the SC Info folder, repairing permissions (diskwarrior, original disks, and local disk utility), deauthorizing, authorizing, clearing cache, installing iTunes again, running as a new user etc etc. Nothing worked, except to quit out of iTunes (in some cases several times) or as you have also identified, plugging in the iPod after iTunes has opened.
Hopefully Apple will sort this mess out in the next upgrade, otherwise it's back to 9.0.2.
