Thank you so much!! I thought I would have to get a new iPod (mine just hit 4.5 years old) so I'm glad this was not the case. I really appreciate your help.
Simple fix that worked for me was to remove the iTunes icon from the dock and replace it with the icon from the application folder. Error (-42408) goes away and does not ask to authorize computer.
Re Error 42208 had exactly same issue found if you remove the iTunes icon from the task bar to trash then drag a new shortcut icon from your applications folder as someone else suggested everything works as normal... it's really frustrating I know as I had reinstalled iTunes, restored my iPhone 4 times and tried the de-authorising and authorising again before seeing the posting... The good news is this does seem to work... hope you get it to work for you...
With me removing the alias from the dock and putting the new one, referring tothe new version of iTunes, helped.
Strange though, one of the first things I ever experienced with sloppy Apple software!
The problem comes back,
I can sync only once after deleting the file com.apple.iTunes.plist
I have to delete it again each time I want to sync my Ipod.
I found where I installed the latest itunes update by going into Software Update and viewing the history there. I then deleted itunes, rebooted, and then restored itunes from time machine. It seems to work with no error message now.
