iTunes Error 42408 After 9.03 Upgrade

I am receiving the error 42408 after upgrading to 9.03. Google did not yield any results. The error appears attempting to authorize my Powerbook.

PowerBook G4, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

I checked and the about dialog showed 9.03, but tried starting iTunes directly from the Applications directory and the error went away. Didn't even ask me to authorize. Very odd considering the icon in the dock changed to running status indicating it does indeed point to the same executable.

Perhaps the real solution is to upgrade, run, quit and then re-rerun iTunes.

Ater following every suggestion here with no success, i will tell you what worked for me (so far)

1. quit out of itunes
2. in "music" take your "itunes" folder and put it in another folder somewhere else

i don't know if this part is neccessary, but i did it anyway:
...a. trash itunes 9.03 app
...b. download and install version 8.3 from
http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/06/28/apple-itunes-8-2-and-quicktime-7-6-2-di rect-download-links/
...c. upgrade to 9.03 * i didn't use the auto-update from the preferences panel. i went to apple itunes on line and downloaded the upgrade

3. restart your computer with your ipod unplugged
4. launch itunes
5. authorize computer

i did not get an error message at this point which is where it usually occured

6. quit itunes and replace your original "itunes" folder into "music"
7. restart computer with ipod unplugged
8. launch itunes
9. plug in ipod

* if you get the message that says your ipod wont work or something like that, then:

10. do a "restore" on your ipod
11. then "sync" your ipod

hope this helps

UPDATE: i just tried renting a movie from itunes store and got the error again. it said "there is an error in the itunes store". does that mean that its an application issue? or an issue at where ever we download stuff from?

"... FFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUDGE..." Only I didn't say "Fudge." I said THE word, the big one, the queen-mother of dirty words, the "F-dash-dash-dash" word!

What fixed my problem....

I decided to delete all of the Playlists I created.
Then, changed the settings on the iPod to not Sync with anything.
Sync iPod, no authorization issues because there was nothing to sync/store to the i Pod.
Created a new play-list, added all of my purchased songs to the Play-list and synced, no problem.
Rebooted, no problem.
Plugged, unplugged, rebooted, plugged in again....over and over.....different scenarios.....the problem has not returned since creating all of my play-lists from scratch.

Very odd.

Same thing happened to me after the update.
I have 43gigs of content within in iTunes; 28 gigs of music + 15gigs of Podcasts.
ONLY 23 gigs of the music transferred into the iPod. There's like 5gigs of paid for music not recognized, "lost". I tries resetting the iPod to factory settings but now ALL of the music is LOST. Still have 43gigs in iTunes. The iPod says 43gigs taken and 100gigs free, but NO songs? It's like they're all lost!
Any ideas?

Thank you, Dez. That did work for me. What I did:

1. Removed my personal Playlists (as a precaution, based on earlier thread entries)
2. Performed a Restore in my iPod, then immediately closed iTunes
3. Went to the Library and deleted all three iTunes-related plists (Preferences)
4. Restarted iTunes and proceeded to start iPod Sync.
5. Went to Store > Authorize Computer

iTunes then informed me that the computer was already authorized. No further bugs. Apple, please get a grip on such rubbish before you push updates.

But now I'm having to dump the SC folder any time my iPod is connected to my Macbook Pro. This *****. I've talked with the Apple Care people twice and it's still not fixed. The only time I don't have authorization problems with iTunes now is when my iPod isn't connected. There's got to be someone out there who knows how to fix this. It all started with the last iTunes upgrade.

I had this same problem after rebooting while having my iPod plugged into the computer. After I made sure that I had a connection to the internet, I did the following to resolve: I hit Cancel, closed iTunes, unplugged my iPod, restarted iTunes, played a purchased song, entered my password. It then worked okay. I was also able to sync my iPod afterward.
