iBook G3 Charger Question

Hey guys I just bought a USED iBook G3 500MHz / 128mb of ram / 15gigabyte harddrive without the Mac Operating System. I'm going to hopefully upgrade to 512mb or 640mb and 320gigabyte harddrive. I have replaced the battery, logic board and everything. I'm going to install MAC OSX 10.4.11 Tiger soon enough as I can find a source. Anyway it did not come with a Charger. I bought an external one, located at http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320474202038&ssPageName=STRK: MEWNX:IT and I was wondering if it was compatible with the iBook I bought. It Says "Power Adapter Charger For Apple iBook G4 PowerBook 48W" I've heard stories about it working for others. As in powerbook g4 chargers "coexisting" with iBook G3s and I wondered if it would be the same for iBook G4s and G3s.

Please respond :)! My ibook G3 500mhz/128mb RAM/15gb HDD is a LATE 2001 model known as the iBook G3: M6497.

I paid 88.87$ for the entire lot.

You are able to install the 256 MB +in addition to+ the logic board RAM because of the RAM slot. (Did you read the page of instructions to which I linked? There are pictures. You will see.)

You will find that Panther (Mac OS X 10.3) will run much faster and better than Mac OS X 10.1.4. That is a very old version of the OS (almost a beta version), and there are many things you will not be able to do with it (particularly online) that you could do with with Mac OS X 10.3. Mac OS X 10.3 will run much better for you with the additional RAM.

No, Bloodrayne requires Mac OS X 10.2 or better:

http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/games/demos_updates/bloodrayne.html

You will find that most things will not work with Mac OS X 10.1, but this game also requires a 733MHz PowerPC G4 processor or higher. It won't work with your iBook G3 (Dual USB).

Maybe it would be wise to ask about something before you spend your money?

Okay long story short.:

My step sister dropped my iBook G3 M6497.

It won't boot up I've installed MAC OSX numerous times and yeah.

I believe its a Hard-drive failure.

Would I be able to install this?
http://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-MK1246GSX-internal-SATA-300-buffer/dp/B00104CE2W/r ef=sr112?ie=UTF8&s=pc&qid=1268340559&sr=1-12

I believe the current harddrive is 2.5" ATA and the same as the link above.

The original harddrive is 15gb 2.5" ata. The one mentioned above is 120GB.

It will indeed boot up and load the CD. I did Disk Utility erased the entire 15 gigabyte Harddrive installed in the iBook G3 m6497.

It gets to a "Software Successfully Installed" page - restart XX (x's being numbers) and then goes into Editor Mode. (A gray screen that you get while pushing: CTRL&F&O or something like that.) And says something about Default x=a bunch of numbers Code=more numbers and some other stuff too.

It takes on average a hour to install it. I've done it 8 or 9 times now.

There are just a lot of things that could be wrong besides the hard drive.

I agree that the hard drive is a likely culprit, but you could replace the hard drive and immediately see that it was the logic board or one or more cable connections that are damaged instead of or in addition to the hard drive.

Since you have the new MacBook, I wouldn't recommend trying to repair the iBook at this point. You may want consider selling it for parts.

No. That Toshiba drive won't work because it is SATA. It's for a newer laptop.
