Having trouble connecting my iPad... which is brilliant by the way, to the internet. I have to sign in first through my university portal, which has worked fine on all other apple products till now. After entering the appropriate username and password, the login site stalls and goes no where. When I close, I have to start the whole process over again, getting no where fast!
I have reset both the settings and device, to no avail. The only other additional information would be that its powered by Cisco Clean Access, and I have all the appropriate settings, I have completely copied everything from my iphone, ensuring that settings are correct.
I dont know if anyone can help, thought I would place on this forum before I start contacting Apple Support, you all seem to know more then me.

Ok, so I reset and cleared my history,cache and cookies from Safari, unfortunately did not resolve my issue. I am still frozen on my authorisation website login page.
As for a proposed IP address, I am not receiving any, I'm assuming this could be, because I am unable to actual connect, and thus not displaying one.
At work, I connected to an open access, and browsed fine, so I know its not a hardware issue.
Looks like ill be contacting customer support tomorrow, both at university and then apple, see if I can get anywhere!

Frequently Universities and the like need to register the MAC address of the different devices that will be accessing their network. Could this be the problem you are experiencing? It will show your connected to the network but will not assign an IP. Wishing you luck.
Im hoping that could be the concern, the IT helpdesk at uni opens at 9am tomorrow morning, Ill be popping straight in, and hopefully I can resolve this issue, ill let you all know if they did need to register the MAC address.
I don't understand what Apple means in that article. WHERE am I supposed to do this? In the AirPort Extreme Base Station settings? Is it possible that the iPad uses 11n while my AEBS is only 11b/11g?
I had problems logging onto my password protected wifi at work. I had an IP address of 169. After clearing the Safari cache, cookies and what not, I still could not get on the internet even though I had full bars. I was able to use the internet on my open wifi at home all weekend. My iTouch has never had this problem
I set up the wifi router with the password myself, so I checked my iP address for my iTouch and iMac which were both 192.
I went online and typed in 169. IP address Mac in google. I found out that all I needed to do was reset my router. I unplugged the router from the ethernet cable and the power supply. Just to double check it.
When I rebooted the iPad and went to settings. I got my 192 IP address and now I am online at work.
Course I will have to check if I have the same problem at Starbucks or at other password sensitive routers.
ok... so this morning, woke up, spring in my step heading to the IT department, hoping to get the issue sorted, on the way through, I thought, hey why not give it another chance. When accessing my wifi setting, I was actually shown an additional option

where xxx is the title to the network. The new additional network now with (802.11a) allows me to log in. My IP address is a 137.xxx however, no issues. If anything develops further Ill post here, but currently, over the last 8 hours, I have had no wifi concerns... now onto App Store concerns (**** my Australian authorised app store, and lack of iPad apps)
i seem to be having the same problem. i have a cable modem --> airport. my imac can connect to the airport and connect to the internet, BUT my ipad can connect only to the airport. no internet.
the imac is given an ip address that starts with 66; the ipad is given something like 192. (which sounds like it means it's not really being given an ip address at all, right?)
i've tried to clear safari history, cache, cookies to no avail. any other suggestions?
OK, my connecting problems have been solved. After spending almost 2 hrs on the phone with an Apple Tech, we decided to see if my ISP could help shed some light on this. After about an hour with him, the problem was solved. It is probably a unique situation applying only to me but I'll spell out the background and the solution.
My ISP is a wireless ISP; I have a "subscriber module" on my TV antenna mast pointed to "radios" on a tower that is on a mountain top and is about 15 miles line-of-sight away. OK, last year I was having problems where when I launched AirPort Utility not only did MY AirPort Base Station show up, but also those of anyone else on my "node". In order to stop this "shadowing" my ISP changed a setting in the equipment on the mountain. While changing that setting did not affect my iMacs, PowerBook, or iPhone connecting to the Internet, it apparently did for the iPad.
OK, so what was this setting? What the ISP had done was to "NAT" the radios. Setting the radios back to the standard setting, i.e. removing the "NAT" allowed the iPad to connect to the Internet. HTH someone else.
