iphone making random calls

My iphone is making repeated calls to people in my address book. This is not pocket dialing. Today I left the phone on a window sill and it made multiple calls (10 or more to some contacts) to multiple contacts in a 20 minute period. Also does this while in the lock mode.

Has anyone else seen this and found a solution?

Thanks

3gs, iPhone OS 3.1.3

I think I found the problem. First off, I rarely use bluetooth headset with this particular AT&T phone. But though none active, I have several paired up with it. Last night while the random calls were happening, I deleted all recent calls from the phone except my home phone number. I turned off the phone went to bed. I turned on the phone in the morning, sure enough within 5 minutes it started calling my home phone. I look at the iPhone, it showed no bluetooth connection icon, while I was looking at it, it made another call to my home phone while the previous call is still active. While I was fussing with the iPhone to figure out what's wrong, I received a call, while I was on the call, the iPhone put that call on hold and started calling my home phone again. While it was doing all that, it revealed that there is a Bluetooth connection with a VOX headset. I gathered all my Bluetooth headsets both from the house and from the car, all of them were either dead (no battery juice) or completely off. So, for some strange reason iPhone thought that I was connected to a Bluetooth headset that is not even on, and not only that it thought I was actually pressing the dial button on that ghost Bluetooth headset. In order to be 100% sure that the issues are not caused by an actual headset, I looked at my other iPhone to see if I ever paired this VOX headset with it. As it turns out that I had, so I tried to connect to the VOX headset with no avail. So, I am sure that the iPhone was connecting to a ghost headset.

How I solved it: I removed all paired Bluetooth devices from the affected iPhone. That’s it. Hope this would help someone.

I had this same issue where someone, not in my contacts, sent me a text, asking who I was and why I had called them. However, I did not know them, and absolutely did not call them. Their number didn't show up in my call log and when I called Verizon, it didn't show up for them either. The person was also a verizon customer by chance. Verizon explained to me that an ID spoof was the reason for this. Someone or some unrepeatable company manipulated the caller id and used my phone number. No harm done I guess, just annoying. If it continues I will look into taking further action to report it somehow.

People have been complaining about this for years....and it happens to me regularly with my 5s and now my 6. I just got off the phone with my friend who has the same problem. She called me to see if I'd phoned her. My phone was on my desk and I was in the other room when this happened. It happens FREQUENTLY with me. I have yet to see any solution and Apple seems to ignore it. I've googled solutions and the most constructive suggestion is to completely restore the phone an upgrade firmware...which I've done a couple of times and it makes no difference. This is really maddening.

This problem has been happening for years. It started on my iPhone 5 and it does it now on my 6. The funny thing is that it only calls one or two specific people in my contacts list. It's driving us crazy, and I'm seriously considering moving to the dark side and purchasing a *gasp* Android phone. Unless Apple admits there is a real issue that is costing their customers money and comes up with a fix soon, I'm done.

Indeed. My wife's phone has this issue. e are both on Bell, Canada. My wife has a 6, and I have a 6s. Some times, my wife calls me to talk, and after ending the call her phone redials my number several times. I didn't notice to happen with other numbers. But, the idea to quit using iphones and move to Android or something else, is not bad. It seems that Apple is completely ignoring these issues.

This happened to me earlier in the year and, after speaking for hours with my carrier and an Apple Tech, the tech recommended that I reset my Apple password. We came to the conclusion that someone might be using it to make calls through my phone, but it is strange because the calls do not seem to appear on my carriers bill. It did stop after that. Unfortunately, I just discovered the same thing happening again. I had missed calls - calls I 'supposedly' made, which vary from seconds to over 30 minutes +. I don't recognize most of the numbers and some are local, out of state and to the 1+52 area code, which is Mexico, and some to my contacts. I just reset my password and hope that works. Of course, my phone started freezing on me last week (drove to Apple an hour away) and they told me they could not fix it, that I needed a new one. So many issues with the iPhones now; ready to go Android after this one. =(

It is now 2016 (original post 2010) My iPhone 6plus iOS 10.0.2 started playing a podcast out of the blue while it was in my pocket. I thought I butt started the podcast but then it started calling numbers on my recents and favorites, over and over. I picked the phone up out of my pocket and hit the off button. It proceed to turn on and call numbers on my recents and favorites over and over again. I did a hard reset and it hasn't happened again but this was less than a hour ago. I came on here looking for a solution but none exist. oh well, we shall see.

MY iPhone 6 plus with ios 10.0.2 has same problem. Today it made six out going calls, one after another some lasting upto seven minutes. One number was called twice. It also made a facetime call to my wife. This all happened while I was on my dail walk with phone in my pocket. I only heard the ring for outgoing facetime call. Not all numbers were in my recent calll log. At least one person called me back that he had missed call from me. This confirms that calls were actual. I am hoping this is one off nuinscence and will go away. Have never experienced this before.
