MacBook Pro (2010) Freeze

Nothing to do with our issue.
I suggest you do an Archive install of your system to remove the Motu driver and see if that fixes your issue. If you're still having problems post your own thread or contact Apple Support.

I'm also experiencing this problem. And I have the Hitachi drive. It just freezes, mouse dont move, keyboard dont respond, but audio is still active.

Crashed once while on a Skype call, and had no problems finishing the call except for the frozen video (and having to hold power to reboot)

Crashed today again, itunes kept playing. Normal usage. I also suspect Nvidia graphics card.

I hope they firmware fix it, my other mbp was one of the first Core 2 Duo models, during the first 2 months I experienced a lot of freezing and crashing.

After a few firmwares, eventually it stabilized.

Me too. I'm relieved to see this actually as I was afraid it was just mine. Since I got mine (2 weeks) it's happened twice and requiring a hard reset. I've never had a mac do this kind of stuff to me. Get on it Apple!

Same problem here. Random freezes when on battery power. Connecting to a wall socket seems to prevent this from happening.

Same problem here. I've had 3 freezes so far. Once when shutting down, once when browsing the internet and once when restarting. (It was running on power and not on battery).

I am planning on buying a new MBP and was glad to run across this topic. So since I have not one to look at for answers, I have a couple questions.

Ok, it has been established the freezing is a graphics issue.
Does the new MBPs have the same "About this Mac" listing specs as all previous models?

What is the "Graphics/displays" information on the freezers?

There have been issues in previous apple models through the years in which it was a particular version of chip model causing the problem. Maybe if the chip ID & other such graphic info could break it down to a particular version (batch) of chips.....

Yes, it is possible MBPs delivered 1 month apart have different chip IDs and other display information is different.

What is the information under the "Graphics/Displays" of your MBP? Is there a clue there?

Hope this question might help find a common factor which could be worked around until there is a firmware update.

I have absolutely zero problems with my current MBP (pre unibody), but I'm looking to upgrade ASAP so hopefully there is a fix soon.

Had my computer mbp15 i7 for less than 2 weeks and it freeze everytime I start it up. Have to do a hard restart and then it works.

Must say I am extremly disapointed with Apple.. They really need to inform about this and dont sell us computers that dont work.

I haven't read this whole thread but my two-day old machine is freezing. The screen freezes completely, the mouse pointer moves but nothing responds. If I close the screen, wait a few mins and open it up, the screen is now black. The mouse pointer still moves.

Also, sometimes the display gets messed up, garbled, like is not being refreshed fast enough. It seems like a GPU issue or something.

Appreciate any feedback. I am not running anything heavy or anything, it has frozen just browsing the web, etc.

I have the i7 configuration.

Maybe I ma not going to help with this post, but I have an I7 15" MBP (see signature please) and I did not have (so far so good) any of these problems. As someone highlighted before, maybe there were bad batches of RAM or other components that are leading to these problems. We might exchange our configurations / S/N in order to try to better understand the problem.

i am using a 15" i7 HR-AG MBP..ordered CTO the day it was released. I have not had any problems with it but i am shocked reading all these posts.Thought Apple was supposed to be super reliable. May have to go back to PC if i start having problems.

Hello, i had the same problem, but i for me is imposibe for work i cant work for moore of 10 minutos , and them the computer goes to gray screen.
i use a dva to vga adapter and conect to a HP 25" Scren.
I do a full system resotre an still fail
