iphone 4 and tomtom car kit

I would check the car kit tool app when in the dock. I noticed mine appeared to be working normally, but the GPS signal didn't show until I added slightly more padding. Odd n

Thanks for the tip!! I actually took adhesive balancing pad that came with a ceiling fan - cut it into small strips. It took two, one on top of the other, stuck directly to the top of the rocker switch, to get the thickness needed to activate when the iPhone 4 is locked into place. Now it works perfectly. And, the strips are black and blend in perfectly to to the cradle.

Why is it taking so long for TomTom to acknowledge the issue and offer this SIMPLE solution?

I have found TOMTOM very poor in any communications, support of any kind, so I don't expect they will do anything for months if anything at all...

Brilliant! Give this guy an award! I folded up a scrap of heavy paper just to test this before I go out and buy velcro or non-slip material....it worked! Taking my kit of ebay as soon as I post this. Thank you!

One question for you guys: are you having to pull pretty firmly get to the phone off the kit? I'm a little concerned about damaging the top of the phone for the force it takes to remove it from the kit.

My TomTom Care Care Kit does not work with iPhone 4

@johnqp did you read the self fix-it solutions on page 4?

When padding the cradle, I can get the dock to charge the iPhone, but the audio-out jack on the cradle won't work. Anyone having any luck there?

Here's my solution to the problem

Buy a bottle of wine with a cork
Take out cork and cut a slice about 2-2.5mm thick
Trim it down to a rectangle which will fit snugly onto the raised bar on the rocker switch
Glue in on with super glue
Paint it black with a marker pen (if desired)
Drink wine (hic)

I had to put two layers of the felt pad to make it work. Experiment with it, I'd say.

can some one measure the thickness of the pads so we don't have to fiddle around... thanks 🙂

I was able to put velcro on the car kit and get it to charge and connect to BT, but all is not well.

When I try to make selections it acts as if I'm touching a different part of the screen. I was trying to navigate through settings and it brought up email. Once I remove the phone from the dock it's fine. I put it in a dock connected to my computer and don't have any screen issues, just in the tomtom dock. I also have a 3G model and no issues with it in the dock.

In case someone else has these issues, I figured it out.

I was not testing this in my car but on my couch, I had an AC adapter to plug the car kit into and that must be what's introducing the screen errors. When I tested this in the car it worked fine, except for no more BT audio on my Pioneer Deck but that's another issue.
