iphone 4 and tomtom car kit

mine fits fine even with a super thin case, does not connect (ie does not charge or function) fits fine, but something is not allowing the phone to work, with or without the case, wiggled in and seated in th mount tightly.
it's now a iPhone 4G holder with no car kit functionality

Have you tried the simple modification to the tom tom mount in order to make the iPhone 4 work with it properly?

There is much chat about the modification in this thread.

It is not about making your iphone "fit snuggly" or firm into the mount, as such. It is all about that dock connector that rocks back and forth a little. It needs to be fully "pushed back" when your phone is in the dock because it is only in this state that your Tomtom will activate. The dock pushed backwards is the "on" switch.

I have just upgraded to the 4gs and have been using the tomtom carkit with the 3gs.
Yes, the 4gs fits in the cradle ok and you can get gps boost, but the phone doesn't charge and the aux. out doesn't work. I didn't bother trying to connect to the handsfree, as that is a total pile of cack anyway.

Yes,thanks for that. I was being a complete numpty and was reading the forum from bottom to top.
I have got it to work, and i didn't realise about the hidden switch on the connectors.
One question, does your handsfree only work through the inbuilt speaker or does it work through the aux and car stereo.

ok, Now I know its the voice is meant to come out of the car speakers, i'll have a fiddle.

Can I ask what is that slim case you are using?. I'm considering the Apple-provided Incase Snap Case which is supposed to be slim.

Anyone have experiences with this case or the bumper? (I have read in this thread from a single user that said that the Bumper doesn't fit the car kit)

erm... no! This point is making me doubt myself but I'm pretty certain the voice comes out of the tomtom mount speaker. Yes the music in your car speakers will be muted if a call comes through. Any satnav type software voices will come out the car stereo - just not a caller's voice.

I've spotted on the TomTom website that the Car Kit is now iPhone 4 compatible and that they supply an iPhone 4 Adaptor in the contents http://www.tomtom.com/en_gb/products/mobile-navigation/tomtom-car-kit-for-iPhone /index.jsp#tab:specifications

Most interesting. Seems the "adapter" is just a TomTom version of the ideas put forward in this thread. I wonder if they've just copied us?

I agree. I came here to say the same thing after I saw the article. I bet they saw the ideas that came out of here, not to give us delusions of grandeur. But this thread did hit blogs like Engadget and Macworld.

So the details are: car kits ordered after 9/1/10 will have the adapter included. If you bought before that, you can apply for a free adapter starting 9/10/10.

Good thing too. My velcro was really starting to give me fits. Was about ready to change it out with a fresh pad.

I haven't looked at every regional TomTom site but it would appear that they have just updated the product to include the iPhone 4 adapter in the European and Australian markets. The American markets like Canada (where I live), US, Argentina, and Brazil still list iPhone 4 compatibility as not recommended.

I'm assuming the product will be updated here too, soon?

You can now claim an adapter if you purchased kit before 9/1.
