iPad Safari crashing regularly

Safari on my iPad is crashing fairly frequently; sometimes when I restart it retains the pages that were previously open, and sometimes not.

Have not yet established a pattern, but it seems prevalent on very large pages (for example pages with many images) and on pages with embedded video (particularly Flash).

Anyone else experiencing the same issue and/or have any further information? Anybody using a browser other than Safari on the iPad?

If you look back, these crashes have been going on since 2010!!!! I have Original iPad and really would like to upgrade to a newer one but if you look through ALL the pages of crashing complaints, Apple keeps coming out with new iPads but hasn't been able to fix the problem. Funny how they can come out with great newer and better innovative ideas but haven't seemed to be able to fix the one problem plaquing SO MANY people since IOS 5.1!!! Until they do I'm really afraid to buy another iPad that's going to crash as much as my current one.

Such a pity because I used to enjoy it so much!!!!

We have an iPad 3 and an iPad 4 and they almost never crash. We gifted our old iPad 1's to relatives when we upgraded a couple of years ago and they have not experienced major problems with this either — perhaps an occasional crash at worst.

(This issue still mystifies me becasuse for a short period after upgrading my iPad 1 to iOS v5, my old iPad did start crashing. But I reinstalled the OS and all Apps from scratch just once and the problem disappeared. A few months later, I upgraded to the aforementioned iPad 3, reformatted the old device and sent it off to my sister who still uses it today).

I still think this an odd and limited combination of hardware/software and Apps used or Web sites visited. While this thread is lengthy and old, my sense is that a relatively small number of owners are affected by this crashing. I also

believe it is likely that the anecdotes and numbers have been inflated by Google and Samsung shills posting fake complaints here. Samsung is a company that engages in questionable business and marketing ethics and it has done things like this elsewhere online.

This does not provide relief to anyone who genuinely has encountered this vexing and frustrating problem, but it does offer an alternative narrative and possie explanations for the inexplicably random nature of the reports.

Personally, I would not hesitate to upgrade. At some point you have to move on. Technology passed by the iPad 1 long ago. While you could switch to an Android or Windows device, they each have their own significanct software, security and/or ecosystem problems that will be frustrating too. Don't get me started on Androids tablet Apps, most of which are just fuzzy, scaled up phone Apps.

1) I still own my iPad. It became useless to me, but it is still here at home. I'll happily sell it to you, if you want it. Until you buy it, and even after, I'll keep complaining about the incredible poor customer service by Apple, and what a bad deal it was. Apple happily took my money and thousand other's, and did nothing to solve our problems; not even acknowledge them.

2) I don't see why I have to like a product to post about it.

3) I suffered the tens of daily crashes in my iPad for years, and I frequently came to this forum looking for a solution, amazed at how Apple ignores its clients. So I still get notifications and come from time to time. I don't see why I cannot post here if I want to.

4) There are several posters in these forums, notably geopix and apparently you too, that seemingly don't have crashes in their iPads and make the effort to come back here again and again to minimize the problem. I'm just ringing the other bell.

Actually, I feel like I'm one of a few who check in here once or twice a year to see what's happening with this issue and tell the other side of this story. The customers who endlessly complain sometimes get so emotional about their issue that they lose perspective and end up complaining rather than calmly seeking help. It was frustrating when it happened to me and I know how it feels. I feel fortunate that I solved my problem and haven't encountered it again.

Safari stated crashing on my iPad 3 shortly after upgrading to IOS 7. I was sent a replacement iPad without much hassle. Safari also crashed on it. I was sent a second replacement iPad. Safari also crashed on it. Both replacement iPads were new, not refurbished. I updated the second replacement iPad with IOS 7.1 when it became available. I still get Safari crashes but not nearly as often. Restoring to factory settings did not resolve the problem. My Applecare is still in effect for a couple of months. I may or may not live with the problem. I am tired of talking to Apple techs.

Inflated by other companies! What a laugh. You've been around since the beginning and many have accused YOU of working for Apple!

I STIIL have my original iPad with NO changes to many Apps and only upgrades that Apple has made to Safari and iTunes. I only come back to see how, with each new iPad, Apple STILL has not fixed the crashing problem. I've given up complaining a very long time ago. I'm just waiting for Apple to come out with a new iPad that doesn't crash so I can upgrade!

People have had legiitimate complaints since 2010 that's why this thread is so long!!!!

No, I don't come back to minimize the problem at all. I originally came to complain about Safari crashing. Many times a day. These comments end up in my email inbox and every once in awhile I read them. It's true I almost never crash anymore, but so what? You think I come here to rub it in or something? You said specifically that you do not miss your iPad. My mistaken assumption was to interpret that as not having an iPad anymore. You see, it seemed to me that YOU were coming here just to rub it in; that you have a devise that doesn't trouble you, ain't you the smart one. That kind of approach, in other words.

The more I read that, the more I resent it. Go back through this thread and show me where I've come back here "again and again to minimize the problem". Do you mind if I tell you you're full of ****, sir? Again and again my ***. FYI, I complained so much here and elsewhere about this issue and one other that one of the tech's called me to ask if he could work remotely on the iPad. I didn't permit that, but won't go into the reasons. Eventually 7.1 seemed to fix the issue. Since them, I have not come back "again and again". Get your **** facts straight. I didn't level an accusation at you at all. Just thought it seemed odd since you said you didn't miss your iPad at all. Don't level accusations at me just because you feel like doing so. I didn't unsubscribe from the topic, and I read them now and then. Can your highness ever forgive me?

I have an iPad Air and I'm always experiencing safari crashes. The truth is Apple didn't solve it. That doesn't make sense. They are not able to solve those crashes in spite of their several system updates. It´s a shame.

And people like you are saying rubbish. Do you think it's fair to buy 700$ for a product which doesn't work?

I owned iPad 2 and 3, these devices worked a lot better than the Air.

The problem is real, don't try to mitigate it.

Apple ios developers fail at fixing this bug.

Maybe if Scott Forstall was still at Apple, the issue would be solved.

I have read this thread periodically over the last couple months. I have an iPad 1 that used to work well, but now safari is next to useless due to frequent crashes. I have tried a few of the remedies suggested here and they seem to work temporarily to mitigate the crashes; yet sure enough the always start recurring within minutes or hours of the fix. Is my iPad 1 now useless? I use it mainly for web browsing and it used to work great in that respect. Kind of bummed I shelled out the money for this device when they first came out and now it is non-functional.
