iOS4 update - now iPhone now reboots during phone call

After about 4 or 5 mins in a phone call my iPhone 3GS reboots itself for no apparent reason. this did not happen before I put the iOS4 update on it. Is the some way I can stop this happening, or revert back to the previous version?

I was day before yesterday at the closest Apple store in Munic. My iPhone warranty expired in last June roughly half year ago. In the Genius bar I discussed the guy, who after my story looking something in his computer and exchanged my iPhone3GS to a new one with 3 months warranty. I am sure that the new one will be no problem, but I will send a feedback here later. So, I can suggest to everybody who can afford going to Apple store to exchange the iPhones. Apple definitely knows about this problem, but do not acknowledgment.

My 3GS began shutting off after I updated to iOS4. It got progressively worse. I took it to the Christiana, DE Apple Store and the genius confirmed the hardware issue and that he was aware of it, but refused to replace the phone or battery.

I removed the battery, cleaned the contacts, no improvement. The issue wasn't the SIM card as removal and operating on Wi-Fi with battery, still shut off. The phone always worked like normal when connected to power and never shut down.

I ordered a replacement battery from iFixit. It is exactly the same model as the original, obviously a different serial number. It works FLAWLESSLY! User uploaded file

Further research shows the problem is their are a few series of the batteries and the battery actually has a little circuit board on it that is apparently the cause (incompatible with iOS4)

Shame on you Apple for refusing to help. Thank you iFixit.

Overwriting mobilewatchdog via Xsellize one works like a charm... After so long time rebooting problem and French SFR provider contacting with no solution.

So if you don't want to open tour iphone and changed the battery give a try to this:

Thanks a lot to deepsiphone and Xsellize and really a big -1 to apple, big mutinational society, who don't provide a fix and let some forum users find a solution...

i had the same problem. it cant be fixed by software update u have to exange your battery or get a new iphone. if u want to get a new 1 then u need proof that your iphone reboots during phone call. Wel i have found the proof. your iphone makes a crash report everytime it crashes. how to get this?
1. connect your iphone with your pc
2. open itunes
3. syncronise
4. put hidden files on in your explorer
5. search your pc after .panic files

just print some of the panic files (last 5 or somthing) and give it together with your iphone back at your store. i have done it and it worked now thy cant say that there is nothing wrong with your iphone.

How can you write a such think as many people try to explain here that modifing mobilewatchdog file resolve the problem !!

people don't always have an apple store not to far away and not everybody want to open the iphone to change the battery.

Is modifing the mobilewatchdog resolve the bug (like for me) you can not said that "it cant be fixed by software update" !!

Anyway the tips to print panic files is a very good idea if you can go to an apple store.

u dont need an apple store just go to the store where u bought your iphone thy wil do the necessary steps. just like i have and now i have a new iphone 3gs. i have never seen the inside of an apple store 😉

"Is modifing the mobilewatchdog resolve the bug (like for me) you can not said that "it cant be fixed by software update" !!"

modifing the mobilwatchdog is not a software update and a lot of people ar waiting on a software update and thats y i have sayed it. what if u change the mobilwatchdog and apple come's with a new software update. do you have to modify the mobilwatchdog aggain??? if modifin the mobilwatchdog reslove the problem i dont now i dint try it. its not my job its apple's.

just dont make the same mistake as i have.
the first time i gave my iphone back i gave him clean ( no apps, mp3, photo's). and after 2 weeks and some testing thy gave him back and told me there is nothing wrong with your iphone. and i made some calls and it dint reboot during my phone calls. then i put my apps back and then the problems started aggain. so i whent back to the store (not a apple store) dint clean my phone ( only apps, no mp3 and photo's) and a copy of 3 of the .panic files. and 1 week later thy gave me a new iphone 3gs 😉

You have to jailbreak your phone for that mod. Some people don't want to do that. And really, no one, and I mean no one should have to be finding/doing workarounds to get your phone to run as it should without any mods. Modding your phone to get it to work just means the phone is broken. And considering most people had no issue prior to their updates, it's still stands that the iOS plays a part in some phones not working properly.

I bought a new iPhone 3GS on Friday 4 February 2011. Every time I made or received a call of more than 5 minutes the phone turned off and showed the white Apple logo for a couple of minutes before turning back on again.

I took the phone back to the O2 store today and they replaced it with a new handset. Today I have made two calls of 16 and 19 minutes with no problems.

It was obviously a faulty handset.

This problem has plagued me since ug to ios4. Tried everything on here and hours with provider. Finally after a failed pitchfork and burning torch session with O2 I went to the Apple store 60 miles away. Quick diagnostic proved my case. They replaced the handset even though it was out of warranty. They did not acknowledge this was a known problem.
Made a couple of long calls and no reboot. Faith is almost restored. Did notice that I will have to start again with the angry bird app but looking forward to annoying the girlfriend with it again!
Long live the iphone!! Every credit to Apple. Sympathy for all who cant resolve.

I read about the panic logs that one can retrieve on your pc: never knew this (thanks Thimo!!), so now I have made package for my iPhone dealer with all my 242 dropped calls, printed some off and added a print screen of the last page of our 145 pages on this wonderful forum.

Tomorrow I will go there and share my progress made with the dealer on this forum.
