iOS4 update - now iPhone now reboots during phone call

After about 4 or 5 mins in a phone call my iPhone 3GS reboots itself for no apparent reason. this did not happen before I put the iOS4 update on it. Is the some way I can stop this happening, or revert back to the previous version?

At the dealer I handed over my iPhone with the rebooting problem. Dealer: "But that is not possible to solve anymore, Apple acknowledged the problem and were willing to fix it untill January 1st 2011". Huh? Apple acknowledged? "Yes, it was a software problem". Well I stated that I have still warranty until May and that I have never heard of a fix, so, you'd better send the phone to Apple. "Oh you still have warranty? Then I will send it to Apple, 4-5 weeks and then it will be fixed..."

Keep you posted.

Sorry if this has been said before, but I didn't have the courage to read the 146 pages of this topic to find out.

This reboot problem happens to me now since the last 3 weeks. What I noticed is that each time it happens, the battery level seem to drop from whatever value it had (in some cases with the full charge, more than 95 %) to 0, and the phone shuts down. When rebooted, the battery level goes back to normal.

My phone (3GS, 32 GB) is neither jailbroken, nor un-simlocked.

It happens mostly during calls, but not only. I had a few cases where this happened while working/playing with some other applications.

I first thought it could be a hardware problem with the battery, and I was about to have it replaced when I found this topic. It clearly looks like a software problem now.

What I don't understand though is why this happened to me only now, and to some others as early as last june timeframe. I went through all updates as soon as they were available.

I just can hope it will be fixed with the next update, because this is really frustrating, and forced me to currently take another phone. I cannot afford to have half of my conversations cut in the middle.

Come on Apple, we need a fix for that User uploaded file

Having exactly the same problem here. iPhone 3GS about 15 months old (of course), just recently upgraded to IOS4.2.1 from 3.1.3 and experiencing this issue - which led me to here, and the 557,000 odd other people.

Went to the 'Genius' bar. And as expected, the guy was shocked and 'never heard' of the issue - not quite as shocked as i was that he was shocked, but nevertheless. He showed me how the moisture tab had turned pink, meaning i've had water through it, which is probably the issue. This is rubbish, the only water may have been a bit of splash from rain, i've never damaged the phone, i've in fact taken very good care of it. I mentioned how the phone reboots 7 minutes into every call only coincided exactly with me upgrading to IOS4.2.1 about 2 weeks ago, he said it was probably just coincidence, as he's never heard of this issue before, and IOS4 is fine.

All he would do is offer me a $250 refurbed phone with 3 month warranty, as mine was out of warranty.

So, it looks like i gotta decide what to do, with no 100% definite solution;
1. Jailbreak and apply mobilewatchdog patch
2. Buy a new battery
3. Restore/Reboot time wasting misery
4. Wait for IOS update from apple?? will this even be fixed??
5. Use as paperweight, dust off old Sony-Ericsson.

On paper, the only sensible option is number 5.

guys, don't know what to say.
the 146 pages (at the time I'm writing this) says pretty much all.

I write from Italy, bought my iphone in july 2009. The reboot-during-a-call problem appeared in august 2010 (after I update to iOS 4).

Now I'm using another phone. This is joking with the money of your customers! Wake up! Admit the problem! Recall all the iphones with this problem! Or just fix this with an upgrade if it's a software problem.

Sadly it's much much more than 146 pages, but the apple censors delete more than 50% of the posts in this thread. If you read this thread a few times per day every day you see dozens of posts disappear.

And to keep this on topic, another one of my co-workers just had his 3gs ruined by ios4. He "upgraded" his perfectly working 3.1.3 version 3gs to 4.2 last week (even if I told him not to) and he now has a useless out of warranty paperweight that cannot make phone calls of more than 4 minutes.
