Drop calls still with iPhone 4

I just got my new iPhone 4 today and test it out with my old 3GS. I still have drop calls plus my 3GS has more bars than the new iPhone 4. *** can Apple and AT&T fix this problem. They both had 3 years to fix this problem. Does anybody else have this problem.

Yes, Walt Mossberg of the Wall Street Journal talks about it in his review of the phone. He doesn't recommend buying one if you are in a weak signal area, unless you carry a backup phone from another network. User uploaded file

Do what?
I didn't "go see a friend". My friend and I went on a local road trip where I drive every day. I know how good my signals are and where they change. We watched both phones and my 3GS worked just like it always has. Every time we compared the signal strength of the two, the Iphone 4 was almost always lower than the 3GS. It dropped calls quite often. The 3GS didn't even once.
My brother called me asking when I was getting mine because he was wanting one too. He wanted to know what i thought of it. I told him I cancelled it. He too is going to wait and see. He is smart too. 🙂

I have had iPhones for years. I know what they are about. If you have one for years you learn real quickly where and when you will have issues if you travel the same areas routinely. I am just telling of what I saw with my own eyes. I wanted so bad for our test to prove what we have been seeing is wrong, but it showed it as a major issue. I was wanting this phone. I was really looking forward to getting it but I am not that much of a fan like many that will buy it even though it is flawed. I need it as a phone primarily not secondarily.

There are many people getting them when they are shipped on the 14th. This forum has a thread with many saying they hope they are fixed on this batch. I believe there is going to be another "batch" of disappointed customers. Apple has said nothing about the new batches being any different. I even called and asked. They still claim it is just the bars need adjusted. I can't wait to see this software "fix". Watch what happens!

If I see things fixed later down the road, I can easily just walk into a store and buy one again. No lines, no wait for my order and I won't feel like an idiot because I felt I had to have it so bad that I was willing to take the risk of the phone being no good. I will be comfortable in the fact that I am not going to be one disappointed and complaining on a forum when you all have been warned by the first batch people. Anybody that gets this second batch will have no reason to complain when they find the phone is just what they have been told already.

I hope it goes good for everybody but I don't think it will.

There are some apple fans that are having issues but are not willing to admit it, trust me.

I just love how people come up with these percentages of people without issues. 95 percent huh? Where did you get this number?

Well I tell you what I think. My iPhone is working great now and as the other it can be because of many things. The FCC have test the phone plus has. Higher SAR than 3GS. Means you have less chance
Dropping a call or whatever. If you live in a place where the network is so busy you are going to drop a call. No matter what. The more people have iPhone with data going crazy on network your phone is going to drop calls.

My advice to you is get another phone for your self. And good luck if you ever don't drop a call in Dallas.

I am in Canada now and you know what funny. The iPhone 4 sound much better than AT&T back home because I'm on Rogers network. The carriers here is much better than the carriers back home. It's because their are less people on the towers or they have a bietter system than our.

I think there are less English teachers there, forget about iPhone users. Wow, that was rough. So all of us suffering from dropped calls should move to Canada so we can use our phones.

If AT&T cant handle the masses then they should let the consumers know rather than signing everyone up on 2 year agreements to provide horrible coverage. But who am I, a gluten for punishment I guess.

AT&T is a business like everybody else. The only thing we can do is let AT&T finished building their network. Word is that that going to in 2011. As for the iPhone 4 or any other phone. The best way not to drop a call is use the landline. What happen 20 years ago nobody had a cell phone. Today it a must but I don't need one only when there no phone around.

I wish apple would just be honest . It's a hardware design fault and the so called software patch will only 'plaster' over the fault, not fix it. I sent mine back . I can't believe that people are spending all this money and putting up with it !

When i called apple about the fault they told me not to hold the phone in left corner and the said its not a fault with the phone. How arrogant.

I know this sounds like a bit of Voodoo, but it's worth a try. If you've upgraded to the new iPhone 4 and have restored your old software, you may see what appears to be a signal drop-off. Let's stay away from the whole iPhone 4 "death grip" controversy; that aside, no matter what you do, you're not seeing as many bars or getting reception that's as good as what you had with your older iPhone.

Here's something to try. On your iPhone preferences, navigate to "General," and then scroll down to the bottom where it says "Reset." Tap that, and then tap "Reset Network Settings." You'll get a warning, and the phone will reset to factory defaults. You'll likely lose some Wi-Fi passwords, but you may also find that your cellular reception gets a lot better.

I have two friends who tried this, and they went from one or two bars to four or five at the same locations. This is the same trick they are doing at the Genius Bar, and my research shows that it can help in many (but not all) cases. We've talked about this fix before, but we have a lot of new readers, and some old ones, who may have missed it. There are also some discussions about this on the Apple support board. If you have seen a drop-off in reception, it's certainly worth a try. If it doesn't work, we're sorry. If it does, well, the price is right for the fix. Let us know in the comments if it helped, or sadly, if it didn't.

The problem is the same on the other side of the pond. I've been using my new iPhone 4 for about a week now and the number of dropped calls on O2 here in the UK is frightening! My business partner and I both have the new phone which is fantastic at everything apart from making phone calls. We have purchased Bumpers to see if this improves the situation but then the phone won't dock in my car holder, desk dock, alarm clock, Bose Sound Dock, etc., etc. There must be a problem with the phone rather than the carrier and, if that's the case, Apple need to do something about it quickly. I don't want to have to use my new phone in a case that has to be removed every time you want to dock it!
