FedEx mailed me an empty box..

I was able to pre-order my iPhone 4 on day one and waited for it to arrive today. After signing for my package I walked into my house and realized the tape was broken on the box and nothing was inside the package. The FedEx was already long gone. I called Apple and they told me they would contact me back in 24 hours by email. I made sure the lady made a note that said I wanted them to call me.

She said they will probably mail me another iPhone but has no idea when. I was beyond ******. I asked if she can reserve me a phone in any store and I would pick it up tomorrow and she said that isn't possible.

It has been many hours and no one has contacted me. I also called FedEx and let them know about my problem. They promised to call the driver of the truck and the station he picked the package up from to locate my iPhone. They said they would call me back before the end of the day. It is now 9pm and no call.

I'm not exactly sure what to do. I can't believe I was delivered an opened package and the FedEx guy said nothing when handing it to me. I assume I'll have to wait till mid next month before they actually ship me one. Sigh.

Well speaking for myself, when FedEx delivered it they had the little sign pda on top of the box. I picked up the box and began to sign the pda.

It was not until the fedex lady took back the signing thing-- that I then noticed how light the box was.

My shipping weight always said 1lb which I thought was awfully light, but figured maybe it was what it was.

Unlike others, I opened mine up in front of the Fedex courier-- she encouraged it as well and she started the ball rolling by IMMEDIATELY contacting her manager. So it was pretty obvious that I had received an empty box that had either been "tampered" with or eaten by some machinery (doubtful).

The box was pretty light, it's very possible that the driver didn't even know it had been opened. I was expecting this to happen to a handful of people. I ordered a Powermac about 6 years ago, and it disappeared from the FedEx hub at Fort Lauderdale Airport. It took a couple of weeks to get the claims between FedEx and Apple sorted out.

That is so crappy, good luck on getting a new phone. I don't know how people can be so cruel.

Exact same thing happened to me. We should a count of how many of these were stolen by FED EX employees and send a letter to Steve Jobs and the CEO of FED EX. They need to address this or it will happen constantly. The deman for jail broken iPhones is huge. Mine also arrived empty. Fed Ex is investigating and Apple promised to call me call in 24 hours. Who knows how long this take and when I will actually get my iPhone. The customer is left powerless and totally screwed!!!!!! Someone should write a review on the Apple store telling people to be carefully ordering online as it will most lickely be stolen by Fed Ex employees!!!!
It is horrible!

I had this a few years back when i ordered a kindle from Amazon - it really annoyed me that it was shipped activated (with my credit card info live in it) and and amazon's web site showed that books I had pre-ordered had already been downloaded to the device by whomever stole it.... yet amazon (which had the device already registered to my account) refused to identify who took it (once I deregistered it, whomever had it would have had to register it with THEIR credit card to use it).... it took emails to amazon'c CEO and their investor relations department, with no help and then finally to American Express who got on it and got me a credit within 24 hours.

You receipt should have the phone's serial number on it - they should be able to use that to link it to the phone's IMEI and ICCID - and ATT should be able to locate the phone that way -- definitely notify ATT. (Visa nd Mastercard aren't the most helpful, but if you charged the phone to an American Express card, those guys are awesome at customer service and will help you!)

[You can also tell your local police department that the phone is traceable by ATT and that you have a right to file a police report.]

Did you try "Find my iPhone" just to get a look at th map - if your phone number is already registered in the device, Find My iPhone should be able to at least tell you where it is....

Just letting you all know this exact circumstance happened to me as well.

FedEx delivered the box to my girlfriend on the 23rd (I was away). The delivery guy was acting very strange she said, he even ran off after she signed. She noticed the box was light but just thought the phone was light and set it on my desk.

I arrived the next day (24th) and I noticed it was VERY light. The box had a 2" tear and the tape was cut/broken. I opened it and NOTHING INSIDE. It wasn't a joke, the delivery person had tore open and stolen the iPhone 4!

She called FedEx to report it while I called apple as well. FedEx is a joke with this stuff (my packages have been stolen from my doorstep in the past from Chicago (I live in LA now) and they never did anything for me = total loss. Where I live now is a nice area with electronic gate security etc.

After 30min on hold with apple the lady was very polite and set up a report. She told me they will call me within one business day (its been 24hrs as of right now). She told me I couldn't get one from the store without just buying it, but they are able to expedite a replacement to me.

HERE IS THE REAL KICKER .........

Later that day I received a call from a blocked number. It was a guy about 45 miles away from me who had bought an iPhone 4 from Craigslist and upon plugging it in saw MY PHONE NUMBER! I told him that was my phone that was stolen by a FedEx employee (most likely). His description of the shady seller matches the description of our FedEx guy!!!

The buyer said he paid $850 for the phone and nothing else (no box or cables). Without my info he cannot activate or use it at all, so he actually called me back to ask for my zip code so he could "at least play around with it".

PEOPLE ARE RIDICULOUS!

Currently I am waiting for Apple to call me back and resolve this, hopefully by sending me a new one soon.

I feel your pain people, this was the most absurd delivery I have ever experienced. I will update you when I have more info.

This situation is terrible. I call FED EX today to follow up on the claim. They delivered an empty box to me, therefore one of their employees stole it. The rep said " We are working on it, what more do you want"!!!! So Rude!
It will take them 5-10 business days to determine if the phone is "missing". Apple costumer service is a joke also. The rep was so rude! he told me there was nothing Apple could until Fed Ex determined if it was stolen. In the mean time I have to wait or buy the iPhone at full price ($700!). He said if I don't like it then go buy something else! When I asked for his name he hung up on me. Why does Apple treat it's customer's so bad??????
I am going to get an Ipod touch, install Skype on it, get a Verizon mifi card and to **** with Apple and the iPhone. It iis ridiculous what we have to go through just to get an iPhone! No thanks!
