FedEx mailed me an empty box..

I was able to pre-order my iPhone 4 on day one and waited for it to arrive today. After signing for my package I walked into my house and realized the tape was broken on the box and nothing was inside the package. The FedEx was already long gone. I called Apple and they told me they would contact me back in 24 hours by email. I made sure the lady made a note that said I wanted them to call me.

She said they will probably mail me another iPhone but has no idea when. I was beyond ******. I asked if she can reserve me a phone in any store and I would pick it up tomorrow and she said that isn't possible.

It has been many hours and no one has contacted me. I also called FedEx and let them know about my problem. They promised to call the driver of the truck and the station he picked the package up from to locate my iPhone. They said they would call me back before the end of the day. It is now 9pm and no call.

I'm not exactly sure what to do. I can't believe I was delivered an opened package and the FedEx guy said nothing when handing it to me. I assume I'll have to wait till mid next month before they actually ship me one. Sigh.

This makes me wonder whether if I should order online or just go buy it at the store!

I am in a family plan and I am under my mothers name so she would needto go to the store with me as they will ask for the ID. Plus my mother live out of state, so I can't walk into a store and buy it. The only option that I have is to order it online using my mothers account and stuff and have it delivered to me. I have told my mother that I am planning on getting the new iPhone and she agrees so that would not be a problem.

After reading this whole thread it gets me worried as well that my iPhone might get stolen by one of their employees! But is the problem fixed? Does anyone that received it recently happened to them?

Another question, what if I order online via apple store? Can I purchase the iPhone 4 via the online apple store and I pick up the phone at the apple store? Would they check the ID of the account holder? If so then I only have the choice to order it online via AT&T store and have it deliver to me or is there another option? Please let me know before I order my iPhone 4 in the next few weeks

The title of this thread is wrong. FedEx did not mail an empty box. Some thief who has access to FedEx packages probably "lifted" the IP.

My god! This is scaring me! Mine is "prepared for shipment" and my credit card has a hold on it for the funds.

I was going to do the release thing but now I will have to take time off from work to sit here and wait for Fedex.

I wouldn't worry too much about your package as it's supposed to be signed for. IF you're not there, pop down to your local FedEx warehouse and pick it up after work. Whatever you do, don't open up a "light" box so that there is no question you got scammed by some thief.

I'm guessing the odds of this happening are very low.

I told my husband most of the horror stories on this thread, since our iPhones are due to arrive tomorrow and he'll be the one at home waiting for FedEx to deliver. He's going to ask to inspect the boxes before signing for them, and we'll also be calling our leasing office telling them NOT to sign for anything for our apartment (in case the driver decides to go straight there). Basically, no iPhone in sight, no signature.

It's a little over-cautious but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

We just moved into a new apartment complex and this will be our first packages delivered there, so I really don't know how shady (if they even are) the people at the leasing office are. I normally wouldn't care with stuff like clothes, books, etc, but this is worth a little more than that.

I'm sure it'll be fine, but I'd rather not have to go through the hassle of having to file claims and whatnot.

This is what really worries me, because last time I ordered iphone 3G S online, it came in fine and i had received the phone, but now after reading this thread, my trust on Fed ex is certainly going down due to the fact there is a chance that when I order the iphone 4 online that it could be stolen by one of the employees.

Honestly i would rather buy it in store but since I am not the account holder but I am an authorized users - Retail Store, so I'm not really sure if the account holder needs to be present at the Apple Store when I purchase my iphone 4. I know that if I go to the AT&T store that i can still purchase the iphone 4 regardless of the account holder or the authorized users. But I would rather buy it at the Apple store.

So those are the only concerns I have. If the Apple Store do require the account holder to be present at the time of purchasing an iphone 4, then that is impossible for me as my mother is the account holder and lives out of State, or is it possible that even though I am an autherized user, that I can still buy an iphone 4 at the Apple Store and showing my valid photo ID, will they still let me purchase an iphone 4 there? If not then the only choice I have is to order it from AT&T online store or go to the nearest AT&T store.

Why don't you just buy it from AT&T instead of Apple? It's the same phone. I had my mom as an authorized user when she was in CA and I was in PA, and due to a misunderstanding of our names (sounds the same, spelled differently), she was able to deactivate my sim at the AT&T store. If she can do that, on the primary line no less, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to buy a phone.

BTW, we just got our iPhones delivered. Boxes were fine, phones were in there. 🙂

I'm an authoried user, my wife is the account holder an I had NO problem getting an iPhone on the 29th when it was released at AT&T stores. I called the store and AT&T customer service prior to going and was advised of this. All you need is the acct. holders name, last 4 of ss# and you have to be listed as an authorized user on the account. In and out of the store in 10 minutes.
