Issue with Proximity Sensor during calls

I'm having an issue with the Proximity Sensor not properly detecting when i'm holding my phone to my ear. I can confirm that the iPhone sensor is working by covering it with my finger, but when held to my face, the screen blinks as if it cannot decide to disable the screen or enable it. It results on me hanging up, putting calls on mute, and dialing numbers accidentally while i'm on the phone. This occurs on 90% of my calls. Is anyone else experiencing this issue. I would like to confirm whether this is a software issue (Proximity Sensor sensitivity too low) or a design issue (sensor now placed towards the end of the phone).

Same problem here. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that the proximity sensor is now on the other side of the earpiece, when it used to be where the front camera now is. I constantly have problems of pressing buttons with my face with the iphone 4, but never had issues before.

Oh yeah, and fix the antenna problem also. Its going to be an expensive recall, but _everyone_ knows it is not a software issue.

I, too, have the proximity sensor issue. Since day one, both my friend and I have noticed calls muted, disconnected, keypad buttons pressed, extra calls made, conversions to facetime initiated, all during calls to each other on our iPhone 4s. Both of us tried the "Reset All Settings" fix a week ago. The issue persists for both of us.

Frankly, I could care less about the antenna issue. I always intended to protect my phone with a case, and the signal issue therefore is moot (for me). The proximity sensor, however, doesn't have a convenient workaround.

After 105 pages of this thread, I still do not know whether the issue warrants attempting to get a replacement phone, or if this afflicts a majority of the devices?

If this were really a software problem, wouldn't we have seen a stealth software update by now to quietly fix it? Clearly it can't be that simple.

Great, there is now 7 of us here in UK going to court....

This is pathetic. No appology just weird Comments from Jobs. I really dont get this, its already apparent that the Dev Team are more inteligent that most of the Devs at Apple. Maybe you should employ the Dev team they could probably fix it (if its software) BUT ITS NOT IS IT??? ITS HARDWARE.

We would have so much more respect for you if you admitted defeat and recalled or at the very least UPDATE US ON YOUR PROGRESS ON A SOLUTION.

I bet there are another 5000 at least with this problem most people wont complain they just get on with it like my Wife until i mentioned it to her asking if she had the problem she just thought it was her or o2.

See you in court Apple you have cost my business enough now its my turn!!
