iPhone 4 periodically won't wake up

Since I activated my new phone last night, it will periodically not wake up from being locked. When I try to wake the phone up from sleep mode, I hit the home button/lock button and nothing happens. Only a hard reset seems to fix the issue, and only temporarily; it happens again 30 minutes to an hour later.

I synced the new phone from my 3G backup. I'm thinking a full restore may help -- any other ideas?

I'm having the same problem here... Went to the Apple Store and left empty handed because they have no stock. They said they should have one for me in a couple days.

Meanwhile I've tried everything... Dfu restore, regular restore with and without backup restore, shutting off many different functions... No change. It actually didn't lock up at all last night and I thought I might get a reprieve until the new phone came in..... And it just locked again 😟

Ditto on the issues listed above. Talked to Apple today and they suggested I do a restore to factory specs. Did so, and the phone worked most of the day. However, I was using it pretty intermittently throughout the day. Upon sitting down to watch some tv the phone sat unused for about 30min+. Picked it up and hit all the buttons and it wouldn't wake up.
This is definitely a hardware or firmware issue. It doesn't have anything to do with things running in the background or wifi.

However, it could be an app we are using that hasn't been upgraded as 4.0 tested. But it's hard for me to believe we are all using the same app/s. Going to try to schedule a Genius Bar appointment.

Picked up a replacement phone from the Apple store yesterday and have no issues with this phone. Genius Bar did a diagnostics check on the phone & he told me that it had some obvious software issues. His best guess was some app(s) that were not 4.0 compatible, however the 3Gs was not giving me any issues from the update. I'm thinking that the problems came from the initial install as a back up from my 3Gs, & not a new install of the phone. (btw...I have the 16Gb, as I saw early posts noting which phone)
My advice for all of you is to get a replacement phone and do a fully clean install.

I have a little bit of an update.

I contacted Apple Support and they wanted me to try a full factory restore, see where that got me and then head to an Apple Store for a replacement if that didn't correct the problem.

I haven't done that yet, BUT I haven't had a "coma" incident in going on 36hrs now. The only different thing that I have done is not connect the headphones. Now that I think about it, every time the coma happened before, the headphones were plugged in.

Has this happened with anyone else while headphones were plugged in?
