Bluetooth Problems

Hey people,
I am having problems with my new iphone 4 bluetooth.
When i go into the setings and turn bluetooth on it just says Searching and has the "working" symbol, it never finds anything and yes i do have my bluetooth on other phone on.
Also the symbol for bluetooth never turns blue,(next to battery symbol).

It looks to me like the bluetooth is not turning on at all ?

Anyone else having this problem, can people check there's and report what you think.

Thanks

iphone 4, iOS 4

Works! I just paired my iPhone 4 withe the Jawbone Icon. I went to the Jawbone website and followed their instructions for repairing the headset with your phone. I am copying their instructions below:

Follow these steps to put the Jawbone ICON in pairing mode.

1. Start with the headset OFF (slide the power switch to OFF, the position where you cannot see the blue indicator).

2. Press and hold the TALK button

3. Slide the power switch ON.

4. Wait for LED starts to flash red and white.

5. Release the TALK button.

The headset is now in discovery or pairing mode. On your iPhone, go to the Bluetooth settings and search for (or add) Bluetooth devices. When found, select Jawbone ICON. When prompted for a passkey, enter 0000.

Note from scn: I didn't have to enter in the passkey. I followed the above steps and the phone immediately paired. Perhaps the old passkey was kept from my old iPhone 3G when I updated to the iPhone 4.

I checked 3G data speeds at my house this morning in the Baltimore area and they are fast again .

It seems the mornings are a lot better then afternoon and evening.last night I could not connect at all
On 3G to the Internet.

Is At&t throttling the bandwidth for some users in heavy data use areas? I'm beginning to wonder because
When I first got the phone the first couple of days 3G speeds were lightning fast .The last couple of days
I've hardly been able to use 3G data. This morning 3G data speeds are good but not as good as
Last week.

My iPhone 3GS with 3.1.3 worked fully with my BMW 550 fine until I purchased the iPhone 4. It paired and it always connects but the functions are somehow crewed up.

1. When I connect my iphone with my car via AUX cable and receive a call I have to disconnect the cable because the iPhone thinks it has the stock earphones with mic. When I finish the call the iphone do not restart iPod function. So in other words, I can't talk via bluetooth with the AUX cable inserted.

2. If I want to talk privately, choosing the bluetooth sound option while connected via bluetooth with my car, the "iPhone" button does not works. I click on it but there's no response. I can only choose the "speaker" or "BMW 00344" option.

Well, I recently realized that I also lost MMS with the iOS4 update. I restored the phone and set it up as a new device and got MMS back, hoping this would also resolve my Bluetooth issues. No good. Bluetooth still shuts off randomly, calls still garbled. This is happening on a Motorola T505 Handsfree.

Definitely a problem with iOS4. It happens about 40% of the time I try to turn on bluetooth. It is not a pairing issue, but an issue with the phone initializing bluetooth. The only way I have found to get it to work when it locks up is to reboot the phone. Happened on my 3GS and on my iphone4, so it is something in the OS. Also, I found the volume of bluetooth to be quieter at full volume than on my 3GS

Hope Apple fixes it soon. A real pain when a call comes in unexpectedly and I can't pick it up on bluetooth. Do you think Apple will pay the ticket if I get busted for not using bluetooth because of this issue?

I must say iPhone 4 ***** no matter what critics say. Im also having issues with the bluebooth (and many other issues related to the camera, 3G and the failed calls) when i go to setting and turn on bluetooth it shows that it is searching. I spent over 30 minutes waiting for it to recognize my dads nokia. I was trying to transfer his ringtone over to my iPhone 4. Apprently apple does not have any solution to this issue, I must say apple is being very unresponsible and i am very disappointed in this device and apple.

@Tejendra: what you're saying is not possible. I'm not sure why it paired with the Nokia at all, unless one of the bluetooth stack protocols were supported. Most people don't realize, Bluetooth is just a way to connect devices -- they also must speak the right protocols in order to use anything. For example, you can't send files to a headset -- it just won't work. What you're referring to is the OBEX protocol, which is not supported by iPhone. For a complete list, see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3647

As for transferring ringtones, it's also probable that the ringtone is not in an MP4/AAC audio file format with an M4R extension as required. Many ringtones are MP3, which the iPhone does not support. For a quick guide on how to convert it, see http://www.ehow.com/how2160460custom-iphone-ringtones-free.html .

If you're having camera related issues, or issues with failed calls, there could be other issues going on, but it definitely sounds like you are NOT experiencing the aforementioned bluetooth problems we're all here to complain about. Best of luck!

@jamiepm, thanks for your reply. whenever i think of bluetooth i think about wirelessly connecting two devices. i think its sad that a smartphone such as iPhone can not connect to other iPhone to transfer ringtones or contact list when a cheap $30 phone can. However, I replied to this thread because the bluetooth on my phone isnt working properly. When i try to turn on bluetooth, all it does is searches for devices. So im thinking this is a software bug or something. but i have finally decided to return the iphone 4 tomorrow.

just a thought, but are you by any chance turning your car off without turning the system off? In my car, I've noticed that if I turn the car off with the sound system on, when I restart the car, my phone may not be paired. All I have to do is turn the system off, then on again, or turn the bluetooth off on my cell and then on again, but now I just remember to turn the audio system off, then turn the car off.......
