Iphone 4, iOS 4
Yes, the iPhone 4 software has a major bug. Sometimes, (for me once or twice a day), when your phone rings, you can't slide the bar to on so you can answer your phone. You have to wait until the call goes to voice mail - then it seems to magically come to life.
I suggest everyone exchange their iPhone 4 so Apple will consider fixing this software problem. The reps at the ATT outlets just act like it must be your imagination. Kind of a ridiculous oversight on the part of Apple, being that the phone retails for $800 or so, with all the bells & whistles. AT LEAST ONCE A DAY, I CAN"T EVEN ANSWER A BUSINESS CALL on an iPhone 4. If I was Motorola, I would make a commercial based on this fundamental flaw in the iPhone4 software. GET TO WORK APPLE TECHS! (I still love Apple - don't get me even started on the other formats.)
keywords: can't answer call, slider won't respond, slider won't work, Apple complaints, IPhone 4, AT&T complaints
Took mine into genius appointment, they found nothing wrong with phone so they replaced my phone with a new one. I then brought it home and restored the phone from a packup, same problem.
Then, restored to factory and started over as a brand new phone, same problem. This problem has existed through several os updates and no fix..
I just got a new iPhone 4 with OS Version 4.3.3 (8J2), and i have the same problem. This is the second phone with the problem, so it must be OS related.
How do you get Apple to look at this. (stop buying apple hardware ?, and when they start loosing money, they might take note of their users)
I had an iPhone 3G with AT&T for about 2 1/2 years and don't remember having a problem answering an incoming call. However, I switched over to Verizon and got an iPhone 4 several weeks ago and am definitely having the problem now. It feels like the iPhone is too "busy" handling the incoming call to recognize the finger swipe so that I can answer it. So far, I've been able to eventually answer the phone before it goes to voice mail but it frequently takes several tries before I can even get the arrow to move at all.
Same problem here since i got the iPhone4 in january, in average I can´t answer 10-15% of all calls. It can go a week with no problems at all, but another day I can´t answer 50% of my calls. This is getting really annoying, and I´m considering an other phone.
I have the same issue - extremely annoying!!!! Only after the call hangs up does the slider work. A iPhone that can't answer phone calls is pretty useless - imagine an iPod that didn't play music. This should be a #1 priority fix.
Another 'Me2'
Can't slide until the caller is sent to message bank.
APPLE, PLEASE... Don't make me go to the Other Side.
I have to call back around 20-25% of calls "at my cost".
Can you let me know your address to send you the call bill?
Fix it NOW, NOW, NOW!
Same issue. Really, really annoying.
Add me to the list!
Happens in one out of 10 calls.
Out of interest; is it related to custom ringtones?
Did this happen to anyone with standard apple ringtones?
Hope that iOS 5 will fix this...
I just joined the club have had this issue for the last two weeks! very frustrating
So, I called Apple support and the advice I got was to completely restore the phone to its factory condition, then add apps one at a time to see which one 'caused' the problem. Clearly, since this happens infrequently and sporadically anyway, that doesn't seem practical. And I don't believe it involves interference from another app anyway. But here's the kicker--the support guy, Chris, actually told me that a song that had been downloaded wrong could be the problem. He said that some songs might be a little corrupted in the download process, and that you could hear it in the playback. I said, "So you are telling me that a crackly song can make my phone not answer?" Chris: "Exactly." (Not that I'm even playing any songs when the slider won't slide.) Obviously, Apple needs to get a clue.
I have the same exact problem. 5% of the time. Told to try the same things by support. Already traded out for a new iphone, factory restore, the whole nine yards!
I am a business owner and take almost all of my business calls via the iphone, but if this issue isn't resolved soon, i'll be forced to move to a more reliable smart phone. I can afford to miss and drop client calls...
Apple Support, how about resolution that works!
Same issue here people and I've come real close to throwing this thing through the window. We need Apple to address this issue now: the slider is unresponsive when the phone rings 10% of the time. There is no app no itunes running, even when idle the slider freezes. What can we do - I've tried all of their online suggestions. I can go to the Genius bar but it will probably cost me! Running the latest 4.3.3 (8J2) on iPhone4 AT&T. Help!
I took my brand new iPhone 4 to the genius bar - they installed new system software, saying I was installing the bug from my old install - still same problem. Apple said they can replace the phone - it's on my to do list. The rep at the Genius bar said APPLE DOES NOT EVEN READ THESE THREADS! Apple uses this site as a way to let it's customers figure things out on their own. THEY ARE NOT EVEN INTERESTED!
Still, I HAVE FIGURED OUT A WORKAROUND!
I only use my bluetooth headset to answer calls (I have 2 in case one's battery is dead.)
When I press the button on the head set - it always answers!!
Voila! Problem solved.
Same same, Apple have sent me a prepaid envelope today to return my 11 month old iphone 4 - for this very problem, have been assured of a replacement within 3 working days.
