Turn Off Field Test Mode

My iPhone 4 "inherited" the Field Test Mode from my 3GS (that had been upgraded to iOS4) when I brought across my apps from the 3GS. Field Test Mode with iOS4 seems to operate on an app by app basis, rather than being able to set the signal strength bars or the dB reading and staying in the selected mode for all apps until changed.

So, after numerous searches, I can't find a clear, definitive way to turn off or delete Field Test Mode. I've tried to reset network settings and the usual reboot, etc.

I've passed on a total reset because the Field Test capability was passed from by 3GS backup to the iPhone 4.

Anyone have a clue?

iPhone 4, Mac OS X (10.6.4)

You can quit Field Test mode by going to Phone then typing in *3001#12345#* then call while in the Field Test Menu hold down your power button then when the slider appears DO NOT SLIDE IT hold down the home button until the home screen appears you are now out of Field Test Mode fully!

I know I am a few years late but I had this problem on my phone and I fixed it.

I activated FTM on iPhone 4 iOS 5.1 and upgraded to iOS 6 and couldn't turn it off .. So this is what I did..

DO NOT DIAL THE CODE MANUALLY. Open "Notes" and create a new note, type *3001#12345#*, then copy it.

Open Phone, dialpad and PASTE the code then press CALL. Once you enter Field Test Mode, press the db to return back to signal bars and press and release (do not hold) the Home button.

This fixes this bloody problem once and for all.

Cheers!

Please tell me how on 3.1.2 ( Factory Unlocked ) to keep DBm not Bar for signnal after exiting Fielt Test Mode . Thank you.

When you're in field test mode, you hold the power key until the "Slide to Power Off" shows up. Now hold the home button until it resprings. You will now ALWAYS have the dB meter, even through updates. The only way to remove it is to restore as a new phone.

If you get an upgraded phone model and restore it with a backup from one of these phones that have the dB meter, you will transfer the dB meter to it.

EBSkater, do you think this is the way AnandTech got their i4 to display the db signal? They didn't detail their "trick".

I have an idea.. Backup your phone to iTunes and then erase all settings, do a full reset. Once the phone is done, try the procedure. If it works, go ahead and restore.

If it does not work, download a fresh copy of iOS 7.0.4 and install it, then try. If successfull, do a restore.

Remember this is more likely an iOS glitch and nothing to do with the ID or backup.

If it doesn't work and if you are under the Apple warranty (you probably are), go to an Apple store and swap the phone for another one. Let me know!!

You're not bothering me. Let's try this again.

You opened notes and copied the code? You opened phone, dialpad and pasted the code? Pressed call and entered... FTM

Once you entered FTM mode, you touch the db on top and they turn to bars, right? Then you pressed and released (did not hold) the home button? This all did not work?

If it didn't work, I don't think the issue is the apple ID, I think it may be a glitch in the iOS itself.
