Turn Off Field Test Mode

My iPhone 4 "inherited" the Field Test Mode from my 3GS (that had been upgraded to iOS4) when I brought across my apps from the 3GS. Field Test Mode with iOS4 seems to operate on an app by app basis, rather than being able to set the signal strength bars or the dB reading and staying in the selected mode for all apps until changed.

So, after numerous searches, I can't find a clear, definitive way to turn off or delete Field Test Mode. I've tried to reset network settings and the usual reboot, etc.

I've passed on a total reset because the Field Test capability was passed from by 3GS backup to the iPhone 4.

Anyone have a clue?

iPhone 4, Mac OS X (10.6.4)

Same problem with my iPhone 7 plus:( I have bak up from my iphone 4s when it was with dB and now it on 7 plus and I can't back to bars. Only dB.

Tried *3001#12345#* and go Home - nothing happened.

Tried *3001#12345#* and turn off- nothing

Does anyone have solved this problem on the iPhone 7 plus?

Getting the signal strength number in place of your bars is not possible since iOS 10.3.1 but you can see the indicator by following this suggestion: iPhone Field Test Mode Signal Strength Indicator - YouTube.

If it's been passed, you can't reset it. Only a full restore will allow you. You're lucky. I wasn't able to get that, because my iPhone kept failing the restore.

Try dialing:

*3001#12345# (Not 3001#12345#)

Then, hit the home button.

It's all good. I've gotten used to not having the field test signal. I really wish I did, I miss it. 😟 When I get my white iP4, I may fight with my Mac a little more, to get the restore to work, then just manually create everything that is on the black iP4 over on the white one.

Wrong. People who have dissected the iOS firmware stated that Apple removed the field test app from the internals, and anyways, that code is to ACCESS the field test app.

As I stated, only way to remove it is to restore the phone without your backup's settings.

I think i went to settings>general>reset>reset all settings to get my filed test mode to go away. It was annoying on iOS4. The setting carried over from my 3Gs to my iPhone 4. Give it a try.

Of course if, like most people, you have lost FT mode (& dB instead of bar) display on OS4 what you really need is a way to get it back! Sadly it seems there isn't one and 4.0.1 does not help.

Please tell me how on 3.1.2 ( Factory Unlocked ) to keep DBm not Bar for signnal after exiting Fielt Test Mode . Thank you.

When you're in field test mode, you hold the power key until the "Slide to Power Off" shows up. Now hold the home button until it resprings. You will now ALWAYS have the dB meter, even through updates. The only way to remove it is to restore as a new phone.

If you get an upgraded phone model and restore it with a backup from one of these phones that have the dB meter, you will transfer the dB meter to it.

EBSkater, do you think this is the way AnandTech got their i4 to display the db signal? They didn't detail their "trick".
