Cannot slide to answer phone calls

iOS 5 has solved my problem. Since I upgraded I have not experienced the slider problem. This was an iOS issue as I have not changed anything on my phone.

I was thinking from the begining its a IOS problem with all 4.3 versions bevause with 4.2, 4,1, 4,0. I didnt have this issue. I went to apple store few weeks ago and for the 1st time in 6 month sombody from apple store aknowledge it, for 6 month that i keep reporting this bug and nobody from apple acknowledged. So this guy from apple, 1st time in 6 month told me that its a OS issue with all the phones, and that i should upgrade to 5.0 because its more stable and should fix it. But the weird thing is that they don't even say officially that it will resolve this issue. Anyways i upgrade it 2 weeks ago and NO MORE problem since, usually 3 4 times a week, i cant slide to answer.

I hope that the problem is gone because it happens that u dont see the issue for weeks.

Something that i dont understand till now, how come that the majority of the people they didnt have this Issue if its an OS bug ????

Seems like my iPhone 4 has not done this either, since iOS5 .. thank God. It was getting very frustrating..

Sadly the upgrade to iOS5 didn't solve this intermittent problem for my iPhone4 😟

The iPhone is a fantstic device, but a terrible telephone and this problem with elementary functionality doesn't really help that view.

the same on iphone 4 with 4.3.3

it slitely helps to press Home button during freez. You'll get som chance to slide and answer the call in this case.

I haven't had it happen since the update.. iPhone 4 with iOS5 works fine and no freeze.

Me too !!!! this problem was present from OS 4.3.0 to 4.3.5 (Iphone 4) ! since i updated to 5.0, THe problem was gone. It's shame that Apple never ackowledge this problem. For 6 month i called like10 times at least went like 10 times to te apple store and they changed my phone 6 times ! The fixed this problem with IOS 5.0 and they don't even mention in any bug report, what happening with Apple ????

I am still seeing the problem on iPhone 4 with 5.01 os. In addition on texting its completely erratic, doubles keystrokes. Hit backspace once and it proceeds to backspace repeatedly?? I shut it down restart it's all working so it sounds like it's a 3rd party application that is causing this problem. Perplexed and trying to narrow it down.

I still get this problem intermittently on an iPhone 4 with iOS 5.0.1. I've had it happen occasionally on nearly every version of iOS since (maybe before) iOS 3 on an iPhone 3G. It's very frustrating, it doesn't seem to be a hardware issue. I wish it would get fixed. Yes I've sent Apple a bug report about it.

When it's happened to me there are 2 conditions I've noticed that may possibly be related to the cause of the problem:

The internal storage is usually quite full (Eg. less than 1GB free).

The phone is connected to a WiFi network that isn't working (Eg. password expired or just no data).

Since about 2 weeks, I have this with every call.

So, it is very easy to reproduce.

So, if there is someone from Apple here, I am willing to give you my iPhone so you can better investigate the problem.

In return, I want to borrow an iPhone from you to use in the mean time.

I have the same problem (not so often though).

As a temporary solution - try clicking the lock button at the top of the phone when it rings it appears to 'wake up' the phone - it's been working for me the last few days.

I had been fighting with AT&T and Apple for about a month to get my iPhone to answer calls consistently. I even exchanged my iPhone 5 times for a new device, changed the SIM card and performed a number of reboots. Just before I was about to tell Apple to stick my iPhone up their butt, the iPhone fixed itself. I haven't had the problem for a year or so. Not one problem what so ever! I believe the fix is to think bad thoughts about your phone. It will eventually pick up your brain waves and scare it to work properly.

One thing I did learn is that the Otterbox clear plastic covering prevents the iPhone from recognizing that it's against your face. This is the plastic covering over the small hole near the ear piece. With this plastic covering in place, when your cheek touches the screen, it will end the call. I pealed off the plastic covering and this fixed the anoying proplem of unplanned "hang-ups." I don't know if there's a link between these two phenomenon.

I found something interesting:
My iPhone always has this problem, with every phone call.

But, when my iPhone is being charged, I never have this problem!

So, just always have it being charged ;-)

Just kidding. I hope it might be a good clue to the cause of the problem.

My guess is that Apple knows what the problem is, but does not want to make it public because they would have to replace millions of iPhones (and would loose a bit face too... ;-)

So, I guess we will have to try to solve it together.

Any other findings that could help are highly appreciated.

I bought an iPhone4S 3 days ago.

I now have an iPhone 3GS and a 4S.

They both have the problem.

It could be because I completely copied the setup of the 3GS to the 4S.

Interesting again is that the 4S more often has the problem if the battery is low.

Does anyone else see this? Does it happen more often when the battery is low?
