Broken screen repair for IPhone 4?

My wife had her iPhone 4 slip out of a pocket this evening and land screen first in the street. The screen pretty much shattered although the phone is still in perfect working order. Any idea how much it costs to get a new one put on by Apple? If we repair though them would it affect the warranty? Fortunately we kept our old 3GS phones so she can use it while being repaired.

In the past Apple charged a flat rate of $199. Likely they replace it and use (repaired) to replace another broken phone. So turnaround might be very fast.

I don't know how the warranty is affected: But I suspect that a repair anywhere else would void the warranty.

Others will chime in who've been down this path; I (knock on wood) have not.

If you can't handle a reply then it's best that you stop posting. I was merely laying out the circumstances of what had happened. Don't forget I paid for my apple equipment just like you. How about a better screen on them. It's pretty evident that they are easy to break.

Speak to your psychologist about the feelings of anger that you have for not being recognized for your service. I thank you for what you have done for our country. While you are serving I'm taking care of the sick and injured on our soil. It would be a different story if half the people on this forum hadnt have their phone replaced for free and the other half paid 200.

There is no consistency frome one to the next. Look at the facts and not your skewed perception of reality soldier.

When a lot of people face the issue of shattered screen(though it's the user error) apple should have a plan to repair it for the screen cost+service charge. They can still replace the phone for 199$ if user wanted that option. Just having the replacement option is not fair.

If you are supporting apple and try to teach manners to the victims you are not doing anything except fooling yourself. This forum is supposed to be helping the apple users but not to prove your intelligence. Try to be helpful or stay away(or don't mind being insulted).

I wish Apple would replace my phone. I'm a paramedic in New York. I went on a bad ambulance call and had to intubate a patient. While doing so my phone fell out of my shirt pocket and landed on the front screen. I attempted to explain this to apple and they told me to pay 200 dollars. Way to take care of your emergency services personnel...

How is it Apple responsibility to replace your phone? If it was done during the course of your work.... then speak to your 'company'.

Again I think a failure to understand the real issues are relevant:

1. I could give two craps if they replace my phone with a new one or not. But don't make an exception for some and not for all. Either give out a replacement for free or don't do it at all.

2. Like Srin was saying how about an option to fix the phone that I paid 600 dollars for.

Dear God, how is Apple letting this thread still go on? Ive been shut down here for far, far less. IMO/FWIT, Apple should fix the front screen as they do the back. Broken glass has nothing to do with the logic board, its the same repair--charge accordingly.I understand sometimes the break is so bad that it DOES necessitate a new phone, but more than not, its a cosmetic break.

Literally takes 20 minutes to change out the digitizer Tim. Faster than that if you do it all the time. I'm assuming it's all the time because there are websites popping up everywhere repairing apple's chinsey screens. Hey everyone why spend 200 dollars when you can go to Honest Tim's cell phone screen repair shop and get it done for 70 dollars.

Jul 9, 2012 11:49 AM in response to MBPBryon

Yep. Do that.... With a replacement from Apple, you at least get a warranty. 90 days or the balance of the original warranty, whichever is longer. If you buy a new phone today (and don't buy AppleCare+) and break the screen tomorrow, you can get it replaced by Apple for less than 1/3rd the cost of a new phone and keep the remainder of the warranty intact. Or you can pay $70 and get the screen replaced. Just don't come crying when something else goes wrong because you actually damaged more than just the screen.

This whole discussion is pointless. What anyone believes Apple "should" do is completely irrelevant. Discussions of Apple policies are forbidden by the terms of service.

If you don't like it, spend your money elsewhere.

If I wanted something else fixed on my phone I would have to pay 200 dollars doran out of warranty repair anyway. So why would I spend 200 when I can spenda fraction of that and then have to pay 200 if foursome chance my phone breaks before a new model is released and we all run like lemmings into the apple store to get the latest and greatest.

This discussion is pointless because somebody is disagreeing with you or because some of us are not fanboys looking to convert normal thinking people into Starbucks drinking anti government zombies?

All I was saying is that I found it interesting that Apple would replace some phones and not others. Tim I'm sure you can't be watching every Apple store to ensure this isn't happening.
