Broken screen repair for IPhone 4?

My wife had her iPhone 4 slip out of a pocket this evening and land screen first in the street. The screen pretty much shattered although the phone is still in perfect working order. Any idea how much it costs to get a new one put on by Apple? If we repair though them would it affect the warranty? Fortunately we kept our old 3GS phones so she can use it while being repaired.

In the past Apple charged a flat rate of $199. Likely they replace it and use (repaired) to replace another broken phone. So turnaround might be very fast.

I don't know how the warranty is affected: But I suspect that a repair anywhere else would void the warranty.

Others will chime in who've been down this path; I (knock on wood) have not.

I am in Eugene, OR and the local Apple store is near Portland, nearly 100 miles. Apple has a great online system where you can find the nearest Apple store and see when appointment slots are available. Go to http://www.apple.com/support/ and click on the "start here" in the Contact us box in the middle of the screen. From that point you can either enter the serial number for your phone (available in settings>general>about) and see if you are still under warranty or just click "Genius Bar" to make an appointment. You can also call 1-800-676-2775 but I usually find that it is quicker to make an appointment online.

So I went into apple today to see what they could do about my broken iPhone 4 screen. I told the representative what had happened and why if fell, i was unloading a patient from a helicopter to the hospital and i exited the helicopter it slipped out, but I recently just had it replaced a couple months ago due to a broken power button, not from dropping it, and what your iPhone warranty is, from day of original purchase the phone has a 1 year warranty on it, after that you are out of luck and would have to pay $199 for the front glass and only $29 for the rear. I had bought my iPhone on release day and my warranty was up but since I just had it replaced, it gave the iPhone a 90 day warranty to make sure that there is nothing faulty about the replacement. Plus the apple genius needs to be in a good mood and just cheese it up your situation and hope they replace it free. Hope this helps!!

I have to say I bought a Casemate case and was happily surprised! It isn't ginormous like most of those iPhone industrial cases that ruin the phone's sleek look and it's pretty durable. I work as a lifeguard over the summer and have dropped it numerous times from several feet in the air to a hard tile floor and the most I came up with was a small scratch in the middle of the screen in which I could easily fix by taking off the screen protector.

Unfortuntately, it does not protect it all. I did drop it recently from a good 5+ feet, which can't really save any phone ad got a smal crack in the corner of the my screen. I guess the moral is that Casemate make GREAT cases and you can customize them! So for all of you people that hae droping problems like myself get one...just be a little more careful about your handling because no case makes your phone indestructable.

Apple UK have did it again. I dropped my iPhone 4 just over a week ago, damaged front glass and some minor damage to frame, I called customer support and was told they would arrange for a Genius appointment and replace it at a £140 cost. However when I saw the Genius he gave me several options one of which was to give a one time only replacement swap at no cost, big smile on my face! Outstanding quality of apple customer service.

I'm a very happy loyal customer.

Another success story; after being a faithful iPhone, iPad and iMac user for 3 years I dropped my iPhone 4 onto a hard floor and was in dispair when I discovered the spider-web crack across the screen.

After considering after-market repairs I decided to make a genius appointment and see how much Apple would charge (£139 for anyones reference). Went in this morning and he explained that it would be that much and I would get a refurbed phone there and then, decided it was the best option (it was my fault for dropping it after all!) so he set it all up, came to payment and he told me there would be no charge! I also had another replacement phone about 2 months ago as the lock button was broken, so am not entirely sure what has happened here but definitely not complaining! Apple have certainly gained a customer for life in me as their customer service is second to none!

Well Ive been to Apple Genius store in Sheffield today after my ihpone4 fell off the chair arm and the screen shattered even though it was in a protective case. After reading this thread I was hoping I would get a one time replacement but this was not the case. It cost me £139 to have the phone replaced and when I asked about the free replacement the guy just said some people do, some people dont. I have also phoned apple care who said water/damage is not covered and tried selling me extended cover lol. So Apple is not as customer orientated as people may think.

I dropped my iPhone 4 as I was removing it from my pants pocket - it dropped and the screen cracked (it was in a Speck Candy case at the time). After reading about some others' experiences at the Apple Store Genius Bar, I made an appointment, took the phone in and explained what happened. They told me a replacement phone would be $199, but might be able to work out an exchange. Twenty minutes later, I was walking out the door with a new phone at no cost. Apple customer service rocks!

I'm a little leery of adding another happy-ending story to this thread, since some people haven't had that type of ending. But here goes anyway.

Daughter's iPhone 4 front screen got badly cracked. Made a Genius appointment at nearest Apple Store & went there today (first time I had been there). The Genius looked it over and said it would cost $149 to replace. I sighed and gave him the OK. He got another phone set up, then handed me the bill. "Price" was listed as $149; "Amount Due" was $0. He said, "Use the money you saved to buy a good case, OK?"

Very satisfied Apple customer here.
