iTunes update damaged Safari

I have auto updates turned on my imac. I have been using Safari throughout the day and suddenly I try to open a page and get a message that Safari can not be opened as Safari app may not be compatible with my OS.???? I looked at updates performed today and see that iTunes version 12.8.1 was installed. I’m guessing that this is what damaged the Safari code. The error message tells me I must reload Safari. Any other work around?.

IMAC mid 2011 running Yosemite ver 10.10.5
