Randomly, each font character in applications and in the menus turn into boxes with question marks inside of them. When will Apple fix this? Giving presentations is impossible when the text is replaced with "?" It gives PC users a good laugh though.

The result from restore standard fonts = The standard font check is complete. No problems were encountered.
"Restore Standard Fonts" doesn't normally do any "checking," it just moves 3rd party fonts to a separate folder so as to isolate them and see if they are causing an issue. It sounds like that user may have done something different.
I opened font book app and restored standard fonts and restarted. In the text box that appeared after performing the restore, the bold text is what font book reported. If the problem happens again I will provide a screen shot as requested. Thanks for trying to help.
Perhaps the “organization” is using some 3rd party font which is problematic?
If if you need to come back, provide screen shots of the issue and info about specific apps and fonts being used.

Also a reply from another user: On my desktop, several days ago I checked all fonts in Font Book and had one font I’d added show a warning, so I deleted it and rebooted. Still the problem comes back.
This is a multiuser problem, not isolated to one or two machines. I will relay the advice given to the organization.
This a problem with your particular machine. Try going to Applications > Font Book and doing File > Restore Standard Fonts and restart.
