Apple id recovery without access to an apple device

Assuming I have my apple id and password, but have lost access to a trusted device (with two factor authentication enabled), how would I be able to log in?

As in, what steps do I have to take to be able to log in in such a scenario. Docs mention using a friend’s iphone to locate my device, but if my device is dead or I dont have access to any other apple device I’m SOL? I’m fine with having a backup recovery code, but cannot find where to reset it. If I have access to my trusted phone number on a dumb phone, would I still get in; how does the process work?

Currently I can log in, but I want to protect myself from a scenario where I’m locked out.

If you don’t have a trusted device handy, you can have a verification code sent to your trusted phone number as a text message or phone call.

  1. Click Didn't get a verification code on the sign in screen.
  2. Choose to have the code sent to your trusted phone number.
  3. You'll get a text message or phone call from Apple with your verification code.
  4. Enter the code on your other device to complete sign

See if this helps.
