I have had the same problem ever since buying this iPhone XS Max in December. Nothing but trouble. Verizon store can’t even figure it out. They had me call Verizon support tier 2 and they had no idea but said it was happening a lot and we needed to contact apple. Maybe they will have an update soon after 12.1.3 or whatever it is. I really would love some help. I’ve tried everything the net says to try. Airplane mode. Resetting network. Resetting iPhone. Nothing is working. Are there any answers here or do I need to call apple. I hate that I paid this much for a phone and it call fails 70-80 percent of the time.

I am having the same issue with the dropped calls. Have worked with Verizon for over a month and now on Tier 2 support. Have had 2 phones replaced due to this issue. Went back to my 8 plus and haven’t had a single dropped call! I have IOS 12.2 and still not fixed!! Very frustrating! What is Apple doing to fix this issue?

Ldjd79,

Thanks for the feedback. I tend to agree with your thought process. Will be interesting to see how the new SIM works for you. I have an appointment with Apple on Saturday. I'll have to listen to the person behind the counter explain things like I've never used a phone before. At the end of the day, I think I'll just get a new phone and hopefully it sets up correctly like my wife's did. If not, well, then I'll continue on my diatribe with them about the importance of getting a phone that can actually make phone calls reliably. Go figure, a consumer wanting a phone that can reliably make and take phone calls. The insanity of it all!

Vikki04,

you're wasting your time with Verizon Tier 2 support. Their troubleshooting is just some standard script that you can do yourself and is probably stuff you've already done. You'll drive yourself crazy while they go through steps that might work temporarily (i.e. resetting the device), only to have the problem resurface and you're back with them again repeating yourself over and over. And they cycle of craziness continues. Are you having the problem inside/outside? Have you tried turning on and off airplane mode? Are other devices having issues? Does it happen on certain phone numbers? Etc.

It doesn’t seem to have anything to do with a new phone or a new SIM card. It seems to be something with LTE in my opinion. Since I shut off the voice in my LTE settings, it hasn’t happened once. I know some people need to use data with their voice and don’t want to turn this off, but if it’s between dropping calls and just not using data while on a call until they figure out how to fix this, I’d rather not drop calls. Just my opinion...

Trying my luck with Verizon now. Currently on the phone with tech support on my working Android phone and they are telling me that I need to change plans. ??? They said I needed to temporarily change my plan "for 2 days and it will automatically swap back to update the server" WTF?

I was like, OK at this point try whatever you want. They had me reboot the phone, so that naturally fixed the issue I am waiting for it to happen again so that I can call them back and see what they recommend next.

We came from Android phones and never had an issue. We gave our old phones to our parents and they have had no issues on their phones - just my XS. I called Verizon to see what my options are. We changed just under a month ago and at this point, I'd like to just turn in the 2 iPhones and go back to Android.

Met with Apple Saturday at the store where they gave me the "Version 2" SIM Card. When I called Verizon prior to meeting with Apple at the store, I was asked why I didn't return the phone within the two weeks - it's because the issue wasn't recurring. Within the first week, I had dropped calls. Called Apple, we upgraded IOS and reset network settings - all was fixed until last week when I started having issues again. Spoke with a supervisor on the phone with Verizon Friday afternoon who said she would follow-up with me after my appointment with Apple to see how things were going and what options she would have after speaking with her boss. As of today, no call back. I am so frustrated right now with being told 'the return policy is 2 weeks'. You can buy out the phones and then resell them, etc. Why not just try and help out a customer who obviously is having a bad experience. At the end of the day, I really don't care if the problem lies with Verizon or Apple. How about thinking outside of the box and making a customer happy? In my case, I just switched to Verizon less than a month ago. Why not let me return the iPhones and exchange them for Android phones? I cannot, nor should I have to, deal with a phone that may or may not drop calls despite being in a 'good' coverage area.

Now, if I don't call and the issue doesn't come back for another 2 weeks or so, then it's that much longer and I'll get asked again why I didn't call if the issue was that bad - sigh. I know I haven't offered any valuable insight for others on 'fixing' the problem, but it helps to know others are having the same issues and I'm not alone.

Having the same problem. Been having the same problem for a month now. On my second phone and second SIM card. Verizon has been no help in the matter. I’m sick of paying for a phone that can’t make and receive calls.

one suggestion from the store rep was to try wiping the phone and then manually putting syncing the data back rather than restoring the phone from backup. I haven’t had time nor been willing to give that a try.

Well, I have to admit I feel a little better knowing that I am not alone with this BS issue! I have an XS with the same issues as everybody here! Dropped calls after a few seconds, timer still is ticking but no talky talky. Also, data is dropped randomly even though the phone indicates LTE. Apple finally replaced the phone after me complaining but it still didn't fix the issue as it is still occurring! Verizon is the carrier and they have replaced the sim card with no improvement. Phone has been reloaded, restored, erased, reloaded, rinse and repeat!. Problem will be corrected for a short while if phone is power cycled. I am getting extremely Peeved as this should not be an issue with a thousand dollar phone! I wish someone would take responsibility for this BS issue instead of just finger pointing! Yea, you Apple and Verizon!

It's been exactly 6 days since I had the SIM Card replaced at the Apple Store. So far, no issues what so ever. The Apple Store Rep said it was a Version 2 SIM Card. I have no idea what that means or what specific changes were made to the SIM card to make it a Version 2, but it has held up so far.

I'm not sold yet this is all over and resolved. There are plenty of reports where it worked for a few days and then the problem returned. I will provide updates as I can in the coming days on if things are still good or if the dropped calls return.

They more I’ve dealt with and researched this, I now believe this is a Verizon issue with the new iPhones because of their dual sim capabilities. Maybe this version 2 SIM card is the fix Verizon has came up with. I will probably call Verizon on Monday and request a version 2 sim and see what they say.

Purchased iPhone XS 2 weeks ago worked fine for the 2 weeks but today it is now dropping calls. Very frustrating as I was talking with my wife then my daughter each have iPhones but older models wife has the 6 plus and daughter has the first X..... they connect but I drop....I will head to apple......:( I was so excited to get my new phone........

Apr 30, 2019 8:53 PM in response to Kevinden2012

Today Verizon reset my VoLTE provisioning while I was having the issue. I received a pop up message that VoLTE had been disabled, checked and it fixed it immediately.

Kevinden2012, we may have different problems. What is happening to me is very consistent and it persists until the phone is rebooted. The call is made or received and within 2-3 seconds of the person answering the line goes silent and then 15-20 seconds later I receive a call failure notice.

Has this problem been resolved? I've been having the same issue ever since I got the 10 max. Calls go through and then drops about 2-3 seconds after call connects. It goes both ways, I could be calling or receiving a call. I've also tried all the suggested solutions listed within this thread with no luck. I am with Verizon. I also have a coworker that has the same exact issue but she is with AT&T.. this leads me to believe it has to be the phone. Any help would be appreciated.
