My new Iphone XS Max keeps dropping calls; is there a fix for this problem
iPhone XS
I may finally have the answer! According to a co-worker who was at the Apple Store several times over this issue... Go to settings>Cellular>Cellular Data Options - and make sure the Enable LTE is turned to Data ONLY and not Voice & Data. He said since he has done this a few months ago, it has stopped dropping those 2 second calls. It DOES NOT do anything to your voice calls. I did it yesterday and am still talking just fine on the phone... and, it hasn't dropped one yet.
This problem has been driving me absolutely NUTS, however, I am delighted to read promising posts that indicate that the problem is finally fixed with IOS 12.3.1
I have just updated and I will report back in a weeks time..........
Fingers crossed.
My iPhone XS Max dropped calls were reduced but not eliminated after updating IOS to 12.3.1 and contacting Apple and Verizon’s tier 2 support. Switching LTE to data only helped the most other than rebooting. This is the worst performing iPhone I have purchased. My wife did not want a new iPhone after seeing my problems and her IPhone 6S is on Verizon too but DOES NOT drop calls and works fine.
Restarting it works temporarily! Then it starts all over again when you least expect it.
exchanged with a refurbished one, problem solved
@csmosk - I just turned off LTE voice and data and just have LTE data activated. I hope this works! 🙂
I’ve had an iPhone X S Max for a couple months. Dropped calls continuously in the last three weeks: two visits to Verizon, three to the Apple Store. Today the online Apple rep said the Apple Store should replace the device; the Apple Store tech would not. He ran diagnostic, then restore, then default settings. Finally said the issue is with Verizon. I now conclude that it’s Apple’s new, weakened antenna design! That is a device issue! Have had three iPhones; never felt so let down by Apple.
This is just what mine does. A reboot seems to fix it but it is usually just a day or so before it goes back to dropping calls. I reset the network settings first, turned it off and on several times, and finally reset the entire phone to factory settings still to no avail. It still drops calls.
I did the same thing but it didn’t help. Sunday my flight was taken out of service so I tried calling the airline, to schedule another flight, and the calls were dropped soon after they answered.
My iPhone 4 and 6+ always worked reliably. So today I called Verizon and they reset everything so I’ll see if this helps.
It has possibly happened once since swapping to the e-sim, not near as much as it was happening.
It could have been bad service at the time too because I checked my data speed and it was 1-2mbs. Also it resolved it self without a reboot.
Still need more time to tell.
Call Verizon and give it a try yourself can’t hurt to try it.
Well, I have to admit I feel a little better knowing that I am not alone with this BS issue! I have an XS with the same issues as everybody here! Dropped calls after a few seconds, timer still is ticking but no talky talky. Also, data is dropped randomly even though the phone indicates LTE. Apple finally replaced the phone after me complaining but it still didn't fix the issue as it is still occurring! Verizon is the carrier and they have replaced the sim card with no improvement. Phone has been reloaded, restored, erased, reloaded, rinse and repeat!. Problem will be corrected for a short while if phone is power cycled. I am getting extremely Peeved as this should not be an issue with a thousand dollar phone! I wish someone would take responsibility for this BS issue instead of just finger pointing! Yea, you Apple and Verizon!
They more I’ve dealt with and researched this, I now believe this is a Verizon issue with the new iPhones because of their dual sim capabilities. Maybe this version 2 SIM card is the fix Verizon has came up with. I will probably call Verizon on Monday and request a version 2 sim and see what they say.
That is weird Verizon advised you were the first to complain. Throughout the process, I've talked with 3 different Verizon stores near me and all of them were well aware of the dropped call issue. They, as to be expected, deferred the problem to Apple and said it was a software issue on their end.
The other thing you could do if Verizon still doesn't acknowledge the issue is to call Apple and have them ship you one. That's the least they can do with the continuous issues you and the rest of us on this forum have had.
I was unable to do anything to fix my Xs Max. Every suggestion Apple or Verizon offered failed. I spoke with Apple multiple times and was a regular fixture at the Apple store for a while. Finally, after getting stranded due a cancelled flight and no working phone, I paid the difference and bought an iPhone 11 Pro Max and it actually works and on the same Verizon plan!
IMHO I don't think there's anything a user can do to fix the Xs Max. It appears to be a defective design that no one at Apple wants to talk about and I've talked to, chatted and emailed with a bunch of them. The Xs Max constantly drops calls regardless of the signal strength, carrier, iPhone settings or sim card.
I persisted with Apple and didn’t believe that by keeping on reinstalling it would fix the problem but it is fine now after several reinstalls and 3 phones
I think this problem is solved in ios13.
