I may finally have the answer! According to a co-worker who was at the Apple Store several times over this issue... Go to settings>Cellular>Cellular Data Options - and make sure the Enable LTE is turned to Data ONLY and not Voice & Data. He said since he has done this a few months ago, it has stopped dropping those 2 second calls. It DOES NOT do anything to your voice calls. I did it yesterday and am still talking just fine on the phone... and, it hasn't dropped one yet.

I have been to the Apple Store, Verizon Store and have open support tickets with both of them. I am currently on the phone with Apple again about this issue. They are having me update it again, want me to back it up and restore it. I'm thinking this isn't going to help. Does anyone on here have an issue with the new iPhone on a different network than Verizon? They keep blaming each other, but if others on different networks were having the same issue, that would narrow it down.

Obviously it's the problem with Xs or Xs Max. I bought a Xs for my son from USA. Painfully just after one day we noticed the random call dropping in that phone. Earlier he used iphone 6s + with the same sim which was very fine. I thought it is a software issue-waiting for 12.2 update. But installing that, no good outcome- dropping call again. As there is no apple store here in Bangladesh no scope to return it. This company taking so much money for phone... people are responding as well but their basic functionality of phone call is with glitches. I am having iPhone 7 plus which is also having call quality problem.. people can not hear me well. Shame on apple. Since 2010, I am using many of devices of Apple like.. 3GS, 4S, 6S plus, 7 plus, ipad Air and Mac Air 17. Among them, I found 3GS and iPad Air are the most solid and stable products. Mac Air 17 also freezes

It is disappointing that upon speaking with the phone support who run a call performance diagnosis could only prescribe a factory reset for me and that too without diagnosing what the “real” cause of the call dropping issue is. She even did find out a percentage of call drops from the system logs she accessed from my phone through the remote analystics session. Seems like apple is in a state of denial that these bricks can have some sort of a manufacturing issue which presumably seems to the the case as software update doesn’t seem to be doing the trick for them!

This is such an expensive device and I am feeling totally disappointed and no more proud of apple that I’ve always been defending the brand in my community where there are non apple mobile phone users. Hoping apple can turn around things and let it be my impression only. It would be really a sad day for me to stop using apple someday.

Yes as I said before that forces the call over 3G. When I do this it reduces the clarity of the call but more importantly it prevents me from using data while the call is connected. I receive/make 100+ calls a day and frequently need to access cloud storage or the internet while on a call so they s doesn’t work for me.

It happened today while on the e-sim, only a reboot fixed it.

So this is not the solution either.

Back to to square one now.

I believe it started a month or so after I bought it last November. The XSMax on Verizon May be the problem but I have an Android phone with me at all times too and do not have this issue with it at all.

Ldjd79,

Thanks for the feedback. I tend to agree with your thought process. Will be interesting to see how the new SIM works for you. I have an appointment with Apple on Saturday. I'll have to listen to the person behind the counter explain things like I've never used a phone before. At the end of the day, I think I'll just get a new phone and hopefully it sets up correctly like my wife's did. If not, well, then I'll continue on my diatribe with them about the importance of getting a phone that can actually make phone calls reliably. Go figure, a consumer wanting a phone that can reliably make and take phone calls. The insanity of it all!

Vikki04,

you're wasting your time with Verizon Tier 2 support. Their troubleshooting is just some standard script that you can do yourself and is probably stuff you've already done. You'll drive yourself crazy while they go through steps that might work temporarily (i.e. resetting the device), only to have the problem resurface and you're back with them again repeating yourself over and over. And they cycle of craziness continues. Are you having the problem inside/outside? Have you tried turning on and off airplane mode? Are other devices having issues? Does it happen on certain phone numbers? Etc.

Trying my luck with Verizon now. Currently on the phone with tech support on my working Android phone and they are telling me that I need to change plans. ??? They said I needed to temporarily change my plan "for 2 days and it will automatically swap back to update the server" WTF?

I was like, OK at this point try whatever you want. They had me reboot the phone, so that naturally fixed the issue I am waiting for it to happen again so that I can call them back and see what they recommend next.
