I may finally have the answer! According to a co-worker who was at the Apple Store several times over this issue... Go to settings>Cellular>Cellular Data Options - and make sure the Enable LTE is turned to Data ONLY and not Voice & Data. He said since he has done this a few months ago, it has stopped dropping those 2 second calls. It DOES NOT do anything to your voice calls. I did it yesterday and am still talking just fine on the phone... and, it hasn't dropped one yet.
Purchased iPhone XS 2 weeks ago worked fine for the 2 weeks but today it is now dropping calls. Very frustrating as I was talking with my wife then my daughter each have iPhones but older models wife has the 6 plus and daughter has the first X..... they connect but I drop....I will head to apple......:( I was so excited to get my new phone........
What was the outcome for you? I recently bought an XS and spent over 1000 bucks on a phone to replace my IPhone SE that I traded in. I’m disheartened that Apple has not come up with a resolution. My phone drops call on my boss. It’s embarrassing. Just bought this phone in April and want to get rid of it.
Has this problem been resolved? I've been having the same issue ever since I got the 10 max. Calls go through and then drops about 2-3 seconds after call connects. It goes both ways, I could be calling or receiving a call. I've also tried all the suggested solutions listed within this thread with no luck. I am with Verizon. I also have a coworker that has the same exact issue but she is with AT&T.. this leads me to believe it has to be the phone. Any help would be appreciated.
Good information. I called Verizon and asked them about a Version 2 SIM card last week and the person I spoke with didn’t have a clue. I suppose I need to go to the apple store (2 hours away) and question them about it. Maybe this new SIM fixes the VoLTE provisioning issue.
Many thanks for your post. I went to the Apple store and they were clueless about this version of the SIM card. They pretty much laughed me out of the store and told me that I had to “deal with it.” Thank you Jenny for your lack of empathy.
As for your post, thank you for the detailed receipt information. I’ll take this information to Verizon. I was in there Twi days ago and they gave me a SIM card swap out...but they had no idea as to the “version 2” and also stated that I’m the first to complain of the continued drop calls. If anything, this forum shows that I’m not alone in paying 1000 bucks for a phone that doesn’t work. I’ve had it for a month and both the carrier and manufacturer will not acknowledge that there is an issue, nor will they take the phone back.
Well I spoke to soon. It happened to me and my wife today within 5 minutes of each other.
We we both have the Version 2 SIM card. This was the first time it’s happened since we installed the Version 2 SIM.
Maybe a fluke thing.
I've been following SV1432 and Ldjd79 because I've recently started having the same problem.
I have a XS Max that I purchased from Apple last October. I only started having problems in the last couple of weeks, and the only way to "fix" it, is to power down and back on. Not a particularly useful strategy for a very expensive device.
One difference is - I'm in Canada. The phone had never even made a US call. Definitely not a Verizon SIM card issue. My wife has the same model, purchased at the same time, and hers works perfectly (so far). I hope there's a proper fix soon.
FavouriteBC, It will eventually happen to your wife’s too. I’ve been dealing with it since January-February. My wife’s XS has only recently started (past month) having the issue.
It happened to me again after I posted above. That makes 2 times. I turned on WiFi calling when I installed the Version 2 SIM card last Friday and that may have been masking the issue for me.
Getting the same problem. Apple have replaced the phone twice and even tried with a different sim card and also an esim. Phone is virtually unusable. I have updated to latest software and still a problem
I am still dropping calls. Co-workers have same phones with same problems. Wait until you try to talk with another co-worker with the same problem. Double Jeopardy! Totally unacceptable that there is silence on Apple's end. A phone that does everything except make calls, ironic.
Apple have reinstalled my phone. Once from ICloud and twice from new. They have replaced the phone twice. On the most recent replacement they said that I was just unlucky! The Apple shop is a 90 min drive each way. The phone is still not working. It drops calls and the phone becomes completely unresponsive for up to 2 mins. A restart does seem to cure it until the next time. Virtually useless as a phone
My new iPhone xs keeps dropping calls a few seconds after I answer it...I’ve had SIM card replaced and am wondering if it’s worth a trip to the Apple store... After I reset my phone it seems to work fine for a day or two, but then it’s back to dropping calls.. extremely frustrating.. help!!
I am having same problem with my iphone xs max right now i am using two phones iphone 6s and iphone xs max every time i have to insert sim into 6s for making voice calls xs max is perfect for Data only.
There is no problem with sim or network provider issue is with xs max as the same network with same sim is working fine in other phone. Disappointed with the most expensive phone as well as responses from Apple’s technical team.
Dear Apple Team do you have any solution for it or we just need to face the issue for lifetime?????
Mine did thus too, Apple replaced my phone with another one. Now same issue happening. It didn’t happen on other iPhones
also I’m not changing to work on 4G data why should I, I’d need to upgrade my data allowance.

I too am having the same issue as many others with calls being dropped on my new iPhone XS Max. Extremely frustrating as I use it for work and it is so unprofessional to keep dropping calls. This has been an issue since I got it 10 days ago. Apple you need to do something about this as you will start to lose many customers very soon. I have the latest software update and tried many of the solutions suggested and still the phone keeps dropping calls. I have Sprint as my server and bought the phone though the apple store.
