Connecting to ftp in finder

When I try to connect with for example

ftp://ftp.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/genomes/

I get the error

The share does not exist on the server.

This ftp spins right up in both Firefox and Chrome, but not finder.

Is there as solution to this?

Any good brew alternatives if it doesn't work maybe?

I could not find it, but there was a section to "Bypass" proxies that allowed me to add the domain name of my web server, which I did, though I'm not at all certain that this is correct. Mojave 10.14.5 Update HAVOC Has anyone else had issues with the Mojave 10.14.5 update? Once I updated my file share network set up failed. The two other Mac users in my office who access the shared folder on my IMAC could no longer access the folder. We tried the shutdown thing using ever manner of sequence only to have the connections break after an hour or 2 as many as 15-20 hours. It would just stop working. It has debilitated my office since the installation almost a week ago and nothing recommended by the apple tech support has worked properly. I'm at wits end!

folder not visible server app I created a couple new folders through Finder on my network computer. I then went to set up the file sharing through the macOS Server App. However, the folders are not visible! Had this problem a long time ago. But, cannot remember how it was resolved. late 2012 Mac Mini running macOS Sierra 10.12.6 Server app version 5.3.1 (16S4128) This is the last version before Apple lobotomized it, and you had to do sharing through System Preferences instead. Normally I would launch the Server app, and then go to File Sharing, and then browser to the newly created folder(s). What's odd is they show up in Finder on that machine.

For what it's worth it works OK in the Finder in Mavericks. However it's never been possible to upload this way and I never use the Finder for ftp. I would recommend Cyberduck (donationware from the website).

FTP is on of several items that were dropped in Mojave as

was Telnet.

However, SFTP is still supported, which is more secure than FTP.
