"UID COPY" server error

I can not open my email without the message "105 messages could not be moved to the mailbox "Trash-Yahoo!"

The IMAP command "UID COPY" (to trash) failed for the mailbox "Bulk Mail" with server error: UID COPY

Server error-Please try again later.

I have been unable to get rid of this message from my desktop. What can I do to remedy the situation?

Try the following:

  • Temporarily disconnect your Mac from the network. (Note: We don't want the Mail app to try to download messages for each of your accounts at this point.)
  • Launch the Mail app, and then, go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Account Information.
  • For your Yahoo email account, disable the Enable this account option.
  • Close the Accounts pane, and then, close the Mail app.
  • Relaunch the Mail app, and then, reconnect your Mac to the network.

Can you now launch the Mail app without any error messages? If so, then the Yahoo email mailboxes are corrupt ... most likely the Trash mailbox.

... and if this is the case, you basically have two options:

  1. Delete the existing Yahoo mail account from the Mail app, and then, create a new one.
  2. Attempt to rebuild your Mail app's mailbox database. Rebuild mailboxes in Mail on Mac - Apple Support
