Keynote 8 does not replay the recorded presentation correctly. Out of sync.

I’m having a problem with syncing my presentations to pre-recorded audio.

I was planning to simply record the video presentation while advancing it at the right time while listening to the audio file of my recorded voice, and then exporting a video from Keynote which I could easily sync.

The problem with that is that some animations are completely ruined. I would have to review entire presentations to sort out just which animations are creating a problem, huge time waster.

So I tried to simply PLAY the recorded presentation while recording the screen with dedicated software (Screenflow). That works perfectly as far as animation quality goes, except…Keynote does not advance the presentation on the right beats in play mode. Specifically, it seems to go to the next slide immediately after the last build on the current one, without “waiting” for the click. But there are other issues as well. It just doesn’t replay the right clicks.

Does anyone have any idea how to

1) make the animations appear correctly when exporting as a video file (already tried all custom settings available, no luck)

or

2) how to make Keynote play the presentation correctly?

I have the last version of Keynote (8.3 atm), and I’m working on a MacBook with OSX 10.13.6 High Sierra.

Thanks Gary!

In the meantime, I tried doing the same on my iMac (four years OLDER than the MacBook), and box video export and presentation replay seem to work correctly.

So it does look like it’s THIS particular installation of Keynote, as you say.

I will follow your instructions, but when you say “user files”, do you mean the files from Keynote or the actual user folder for the whole computer? Is there any danger to lose all the files in this procedure? Sounds harmless enough, but I’m no expert.

This is not normal operation for Keynote, I can set an effect to trigger within a 1/4 second with out any issues.

try the following to reset Keynote, completing all of the following steps in the order listed:

1.   ensure you have a current backup of all your user files saved to a separate drive

2.   ensure all applications are closed

3.   uninstall Keynote; for this procedure to work, an application removal tool must be used, App Delete has a free trial and works for this procedure. It can be downloaded from the developer’s website here: App Delete

4.   empty the Trash (Finder > Empty Trash)

5.   restart the Mac (Apple Menu > Restart) Immediately after the Apple bong sound, press the shift key on the keyboard, release shift when the Apple icon appears. Start up will take longer than usual as the Mac is performing a software repair of the start up drive.

6.   After the Mac is fully powered up, restart the Mac normally:  Apple Menu > Restart

7.   reinstall Keynote from the Mac App Store in the Applications folder

8.   Restart the Mac again
