With the recent upgrade, grab disappeared from my Macbook Air. But it knew enough to suggest screenshot. Strange, but ok. It worked fine for a while, but now when I try to select my own portion of the screen, the cursor turns into a Mickey Mouse hand and I cannot select anything and it will not take a picture. The other two options work.
MacBook Air (2018 or later)
From your screenshot it looks like you have "Remember Last Selection" checked in the Screenshot Options… menu. You will get the hand cursor so you can move the selection window on the screen.
Are you holding SHIFT+CMD+Control, then 4 key?
Should copy to the copy buffer, Preview also does screen shots now.
Thanks. When I had used it before the dotted line showed in the middle of the screen. For some reason this time the dotted line for selecting was just inside the perimeter of my monitor. Perhaps that was one of the changes when I chose that option. The arrow changed to the hand and the dotted lines moved. It makes no sense to me. Why change the design for one of six choices.
Oh, well. Apple in it's infinite wisdom.

Maybe I wasn’t clear. I know how to do this. It stopped working with the last upgrade.
