Missing letters on wireless keyboard

My keyboard on my brand new iMac suddenly started missing certain keys. The IJKLMO and numbers 789 do not work. Have tried my old keyboard and it works and when I put new keyboard on old iMac of ten years ago it worked there but not when I brought it back to new iMac. Any suggestions folks?

make sure you have mousekeys turned off
