Apple Native Apps Crash on Print command 0S X 10.12.6

Suddenly and seemingly randomly my Apple native apps are crashing when I try to print or save to pdf. All other 3rd party apps seem to print normally. All apps print normally when logged in as another user, but NOT while in Safe Mode in the user that is having issues.

Curiously the print box appears (sometimes until you press print before crashing sometimes only for a second) but the preview image doesn't ever come up in the box.

No clue what to look at next. No issues with Launch Agents or Launch Daemons as suggested by others.

Help Please!

Thanks

Chris

Hello,

You appear to have the same problem as described here: Safari & mail crashing - Apple Community

There is a solution to that question. Unfortunately, Apple has recently been deleting most of its documentation. Even though that document refers to Yosemite, it looks like it should still working Mojave. Here is a 3rd party site with the same information: http://osxdaily.com/2015/01/09/reset-print-system-mac-os-x/

Basically, this is what you have to do:

  1. Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners
  2. Select your printer
  3. Right click or control click on your printer
  4. Choose “Reset printing system..."

I’m not sure what this actually does. My initial thought was that you have some old and/or incompatible printer driver. Apple doesn’t have good support for printing any more. Also, you have a ton of ancient software.

It may not help, but try running/posting the Etrecheck report. Try running this program in your normal user account, then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by etresoft, a frequent contributor.  Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy Report” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown. You can run the report for free at least once, but if you run it several  times, at some point it will ask you to pay a license fee.

Etrecheck – System Information        10.10 and later

If the log won’t post, try posting it here and provide a link in a reply        Pastebin

With the new ASC forum, the only way to post an EtreCheck report is to use the “Notes” button below.

Also, EtreCheck is now free. It has in-app purchases, but those are not required, especially when posting a report here.
