TrackPad 2 is connected via bluetooth but MacBook Air cannot find

I can use it with a basic hard click but no gestures. When I click on set up bluetooth track pad, it indicates no Trackpad found. I am on OS X Yosemite 10.10.5. I am unsure if my MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2012) supports this. Do I need an update to software? Seems strange that it connects via bluetooth but the computer then cannot find it. The directions indicate it is plug and play but that has not been my experience thus far.

Then I tried turning off the Trackpad 2 and then back on and it shows up, so I click continue and ultimately get the pairing attempt was unsuccessful. Strange. I am lost.

When I initially connected my Magic Trackpad 2 up to my iMac running an older version of macOS, I needed to use a USB-to-Lightning cable.

Also I needed to use BetterTouchTool to get all the gestures I desired. Then again, I love BetterTouchTool for all the features and control it gives me for my trackpad, keyboard, windows, etc... They have a 1 month demo period if you want to give it a try.

Otherwise, you may need to upgrade your macOS version.
